I attempted to update my jailbroken iphone 4 and I keep getting error 1600. Is there anyway to fix this?

When my iphone 4 is switched on normally I get error 21. WHen it is in DFU mode I get error 1600. And btw how do I know if my iphone is CDMA or GSM?
Im not familiar with that carrier seeing as its not in the US. Im assuming its GSM, just because CDMA is pretty rare outside of the US. The easiest way to tell is if you have a SIM card slot on the side. If so, then yes, you more than likely have GSM.
Ok the update finally worked! If i choose to restore my iphone as a new one, can I still restore from backup afterwards?

Error 1600 is fixed by editing the host file. You will have to google how to fix. its easy. Basically when you jailbreak you have pointed iTunes towards cydia to sign the FW instead of apple. When you restore your host file is still pointed at cydia. Therefor its not signing the correct FW. you need to remove the line gs.apple.com remove it or rename it. Then it will restore.
