    Hello,

I had an iPhone 4 running iOS 5 beta 7 and sold it to Dough Dough for £277.04. They received it and connected it to iTunes to restore. When they connect it into iTunes they say an error 1604 is shown and it is stuck in recovery. Therefore they say it is FAULTY (bollocks) and want to pay me the faulty price (£140).

Can someone please tell me how to fix error 1604?

Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.

If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:

    1. Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
    2. Restore and wait for error 1604.
    3. When prompted, click OK.
    4. Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
    5. iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    6. Try to restore again.

If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

    ----------

And to fully recover this unit, they also need iTunes 10.5.b7 to restore it, the current itunes 10.4.xx wont, thats why the 1604 error, i hope..

Thank you very much. I really hope they 'fix' it themselves. Really ****ed off about it as it means I can't pre-order the iPhone 4S tomorrow. Ugh!
