Hello, I recently bought an iphone second-hand and had the battery replaced. I wanted to restore it using iTunes but got error 56 and it failed. I've tried everything like taking out the sim and even got the original Apple battery put back in. Is there any other steps I can take ?

I called Apple and they told me they couldn't work on the phone because it had an "inactive" warranty. Apparently it was a replacement phone and the other owner never properly sent it back to Apple. Does that mean I am not able to pay the $299 for the out of warranty replacement?

I appreciate all responses as this has been very stressful. Thank you!

As far as apple concerns, you have a phone this is reported stolen. They won't service it.

As for the error 56, were you ever able to successfully restore the phone without errors (before you replaced the battery)? If so, you might have damaged the hardware.
