hi there. i'm new to the forum, and relatively new to mac's so apologies if my problems are very simple!!! i have an ibook running panther, it was reinstalled from scratch about a week ago (booted off install cd and erased the HDD, then installed os). now it is starting up to the apple logo, then it goes to a black screen with "-sh-2.05b#" written on it, thats all!

anyone got any ideas what i should do?

Does it start up from the Panther CD normally? Perhaps look into doing an Archive And Install, or even a full reformat and reinstall. I have no idea why it's not starting up normally, especially considering you did a clean install so recently. My only thoughts are that maybe something corrupted during that last install...

thanks a million for getting back to me.

ran disk warrior and it rebuilt the directory, then it started up with a flashing "?"

did a clean install again. not sure what happened but hopefully it'll be ok now.

thanks again for your response.
