I am rather stumped about this - I just finished polishing a movie sequence in FCP which is about 4 minutes long. To do a quick test of my settings I opened the 'export' window (using QuickTime Conversion) and selected H.264 encoding, and put the size as 1920 x 1080..

When I hit "save", though, it gave me the "error: out of memory" promt .

This is really quite confusing because the MP I am using has 9Gigs of Ram, and when I checked my memory usage I have around 5Gigs of it free...

Any help would be appreciated! :)

I have just started getting the same problem after the last on-line upgrade, so was Googling about to see if anyone else is getting it, and dropped on your post.

I have 8 cores, 32G RAM, 4T disks, so it isn't a memory problem!

IIRC FCP can only use 2.5G, anyways, the rest is being used by the OS for files etc.. Co-incidentally the movie I'm currently working on is just under 1 hour of 1920x1080, H.264.

Are you using a Sanyo Xacti HD1000? As I've found it's only clips from that source that provokes the problem, and occasional complete crashes.

I have found though that the sequence has been fully exported and can be played. If I then click on the "error: out of memory" dialog it will save the movie again (luckily, it won't spend another 11 hours re-doing the export).

I'm using a Sony Z1U, so I can't say if it's the specific type of camera that is causing the problems.. I still haven't managed to fix the problem in Final Cut, although if I export it using compressor then I rarely have any problems of that type (and I can keep native resolution). However, Compressor takes anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times longer then FCP to export

Final Cut Pro Error: 'out of memory'/'general error'

I'm trying to export timeline from FCP but keep getting Final Cut Pro Error: 'out of memory'/'general error'. Exporting 5 sec timeline (yes, just a short trailer) via Quicktime conversion H264 at 1080. Strangely, if I export exactly same timeline at 720 its fine. Original media ProRes422 1080.
Have exported at 1080 before ok. No nested files involved; re-connected all media; no JPEGs involved; plenty of memory (all of which i have heard can be issues).
Any advice please as i've read all of the FAQs and nothing helping so far?!

Spec: New MacPro 12-core; 12 MB ram; 2TB drive; FCP7

Any Luck?
