error while writing dvd-r

My mid 2010 iMac will not write dvd-R disks correctly. I will always get an error dialogue box while writing. The dvd-r disks im using, i must say that are 4 years old, but could that be a reason?
Im attaching the error i get!

The dvdr drive my imac uses is the OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5680H, could it need a firmware update or something?
