I get this error when trying to copy images from a sandisk extreme 4TB SSD to a WD 8TB SN850x on a 14" MBP M4 pro. I tried rebooting and it gave me this error several times (on different file names) when trying to simply copy over my folders of images. When I get the error it also ejects the SN850x, but the Sandisk stays connected. After several failed attempts, I hooked both drives up to the trusty old 2019 iMac 27" and had zero issues copying the files, although much slower. Both machines are running Sequoia 15.7.3. Both drives are formatted APFS.

The main folder has two subfolders, but I eventually even tried to copy the bottom subfolder alone and I still get the error. I have not seen this before and when googling it says my drives might be ExFat, but that is not the case. Both are APFS.

For more troubleshooting info use the Terminal app to list all the disks and their formats…to see if anything squirrely is going on.

Code:
diskutil list

The file might have hidden characters that are not legal. Try renaming the file with the error.
