So I'm picking up my new iPhone 13 Pro Max and a question has arisen and I thought the best people to ask would be here on the forum....

Currently I'm rocking a physical nano sim on O2 and I'm aware that the new 13 is capable of supporting two esims on the device

I'm wondering if there is firstly anyone who is using just a single esim and no physical SIM card in their 13, does it have the Primary designation on or is that just with dual SIMs being used?

And secondly with the iPhone coming unlocked on the iPhone upgrade programme, can I restore, sync and set up without the physical SIM inserted into the phone? Or will it prompt me for a esim during the initial setup!

Thanks in advance

I am using a eSim only on my 13 Pro Max, I also purchased my phone unlocked. The eSim is primary destination. Once you get the eSIM setup, you will be to erase and restore your 13 Prom Max and the eSIM will not be touched. I have done this several times and the eSIM was still intact.

When I initially setup my 13 Pro Max, I did a iPhone to iPhone transfer from an iPhone 6S+ and the transfer setup the eSIM for me. It will be best if you talk to your career to make sure that they are aware you are setting up your phone with an eSIM and not a SIM card. Every carrier is different in how they setup a eSIM.

I bought my 13 PM from Apple as a Verizon model. It came with an eSIM and it works perfectly. No physical SIM and functions just like it was a physical nano-SIM, has a standard SIM number, and gets a 5G signal.
