I have the ESPN app installed on my iPhone 12 and on both my Apple Watches (a series 5 and a 6). And the Watch widgets won't update on either Watch and the app itself won't open on either one also. I have uninstalled the app from both watches, reinstalled it, uninstalled it and reinstalled it from my iPhone, restarted all three devices but still nada. I have used the ESPN app to contact their "support" but was told they don't troubleshoot the Watch app (only the one on the iPhone itself) because they feel the Watch app just "mirrors" the iPhone app.
The only thing I have not done is tried unpairing the Watches (basically since the issue was happening on both watches, did not see the reason for trying to unpair them both.)
Any suggestions?

Well I did - on the "advice" of the Apple Tech guy - unpair and re-pair one of the two Watches. No - no change - ESPN app on the Watch is still dead.

Apple won't be able to do much with 3rd party apps. Sometimes you can have random issues that suddenly get resolved.

I used to have issues with both ToDoist and OmniFocus on the Watch and then noticed after waiting a week or so that an update kicked them back to life...

Actually on the phone with Apple tech right now. He confirmed there were other posts/calls about the issue and is looking into it. Thinks it might be the fact that Apple just released a few security updates for the Watch and iPhone and perhaps ESPN has not updated their app yet. Will post if I get anything further.

Just finished with the Apple rep. Apparently ESPN's most recent update was prior to the most recent Apple update (the most recent one). And that update by Apple deals with security issues and apparently has caused issues with other apps also. Said to wait for ESPN to release an update to the app and see if that helps.

ESPN support confirmed that ESPN app does not work on Apple Watch Series 6. "Look for an ESPN update." Supports swandy response from Apple.

Interesting because the I am having the same issue on my Series 5 also.

glad it's not only me. i use the ESPN app on my watch a lot. i tried everything and no luck. Hopefully they fix it soon.

Well I posted in a new thread. Apparently the iPhone ESPN app had an update a few days ago. It was updated on my iPhone 12. I deleted it and installed it on my AW Series 6. It did improve - didn't just close the app on the Watch immediately. Now I get to stare at the "sign in to the ESPN app on your iPhone to sync scores" but it never gets past that. Great update.

ESPN still does not work after the watchOS 7.5 update. Still needs ESPN to update.

I did the iOS and WatchOS updates and reinstalled the ESPN app (they had an update last week) and it works on my Series 6 the way it used to work.

it worked for me on my aw v6. delete the app from watch and reinstall. btw, due to problems with the espn app i tried a few others and actually like the bleacher report app better. the text size and format are preferable to me.
