So ESR wants me to replace my Apple Wallet with an analog wallet that needs batteries? Pass. Hard Pass.

Good concept, but the wallet is way too big. Will stick to my magsafe Apple wallet and hopefully use Apple Pay in most places.

ESR and MacRumors may want to humble themselves. The Grove Smart (smart as in Find My) Wallet Trace by Groove Life has been available since May.

If it works like a Chipilo, count me out. Unless it has the exact technology as an AirTag, I find these devices worthless. They are great for telling you where you left your wallet, but if you need precision finding, like where it is in my house, these devices don't work well because you have to be so close to the device in the first place for it to play a noise.

I just stick an AirTag in my wallet now. It's a tad bulky, but it's far better than my Chipilo was.

Better hope nothing happens to your phone (i.e. accidentally drop and damage it; it gets stolen; accidentally leave it behind somewhere; etc) because without any sort of back-up (cash, ID, credit card), you could be SOL.
You mean just like if you lose your *wallet*?

What is the specific advantage this offers over just putting a compatible tracking card in my wallet. I already have an Eufy SmartTrack card in my wallet and with that option I can use ANY wallet I want.

Then you have your phone to fall back on. What's better?

(1) Lose iPhone and have no back-up?

or

(2) Lose iPhone have have a wallet as a back-up? / Lose wallet and have iPhone as a back-up?

Yes, it's possible someone could lose both their iPhone and wallet. But having a back-up is better than not having one.

Isn't that why we have data back-ups of our devices? Are you not familiar with the concept of redundancy?

You may need to humble yourself too since they already had a wallet with Find My for sale that I've been using since early 2023. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/esrgear/geo-wallet-worlds-1st-magsafe-wallet-with-full-find-my

If the whole wallet *including Find My* is only $44, I can’t expect it to be a good quality wallet.
It'll be good enough for the price if they use the same materials they've been using for their prior products though.
Also, you buy these because they're cheap, if you want a high quality wallet you'll of course buy something else instead and slap a tracker card on it

Eric breaks it down here in case anyone is interested. I’ve been using their MagSafe card holder for a while now and I’m a fan.
