I really think Apple is getting ready to offer an 5K display... But one sourced from Sharp and only Mac Pro (or that hypothetic xMac) compatible ....

BTW the iMac will arrive this Xmas season with qHD(21") and 4K(27") displays replacing previous iMac by same price with nVidia 970/980m gpu and Haswell update cpus...

Sorry b1tches

I don't see Apple releasing two 27" Displays with seperate resolution (5k TB and a 4K iMac).

Who said Apple to release 2 monitors?

Apple will release an 27" 4K Cinema Display.

The other 5K (27"-32") will be available at Mac store from 3rd party brand as current sharp 4K.

Remember currently there are 2 monitor available at Mac store the qHD 27" Thunderbolt or the 4K 32" from Sharp.

Indeed seems somebody forgets this is the Apple doing sacrilege things as releasing an Phablet iPhone 6+ along the new iPhone 6...

Since the current high level iMac is set at starting price of $1999.00 before adding all the goodies.. I would hope that they don't go past $2499.00 for the new starting price of the Retina iMac. If they went to $2999.00 which is hard for me to believe they would go that high, would make it somewhat out of reach of a lot of users. Myself I have $5000.00 saved up for this new iMac. I would spend up to $5000.00 if needed without ram, I would not buy the ram from Apple, too expensive.

I am just saying that if Apple held it to under $2499.00 then they would get more buyers than at $2999.00. Because after you add all the options, faster processor, maxed out video card, upgraded HD to SSD drive you have quite a amount of money to be spent on a fully loaded iMac. Like I said, I have $5000.00 saved for such a purpose and hope that the cost does not go over that even with tax, and even to allow me to purchase some ram maybe from OWC which is way cheaper than going through Apple.

Maxing out an iMac with SSD today gets you over $3,700. As somebody looking at iMac as "bang for buck" it's just too much.

To All the 5K iMac Widows Here

As you know, no AMD GPU handles 5K yet, while latest nvidia GTX970/980 does, but only the DESKTOP VERISIONS

nVidia GTX970m/980m only handles UPTO 4K, this LITERALLY KILLS THE 5K iMac 27 RUMOUR.

Long Live to the New Macintosh 21.5" Retina 4K.

what are you thinking?
so you think the HD4000 in the 15" rMBP supports 1800p?
here is double the pixels so 970M or 980M need to support 1440 hipi

Hopefully, they'll leave the last 1k in your pocket for some external goodness ;)

I do wish that, but Sadly I think it will probably end up with about $500.00 left in stead of $1000.00. But there are rumors on other sections of this forum that thinks it may be a $2000.00 add on for Retina. In just over 2 days we will find out.

That's creeping into Mac Pro territory, but the All In One form factor is a big hit with the still image crowd, so ...

The same question/funny discussion will happen with at least one of my Photo Traveler clients. "Why Do I Need This? I'm the only one who'll see it this way, unless my friends also have the same screen" That was about the current model screen in Mid 2013. Here it come's again ;)

All I am saying is that I hope that the new Retina iMac base price is not too far off from $2499.00 as the standard base is $1999.00 for the faster model. In this way more people can afford to buy it, but if Apple decides to put it to $2999.00 then it may stop some people from buying it. If they go over the $2999.00 like to some unheard of figure like $3499.00-$3999.00 then this will affect sales for sure. As it is creeping into the Pro Mac area... don't think Apple will do that. I am hoping it's $2499.00 or less but in about 24 hours we shall see. Good luck to us all. ;)

I have gut feeling the Australian price of a 5k iMac will be anywhere between $4,000 and 5,000 excluding customisations. This is all than more of reason to wait this out, with no changes to the design, ports and little content for a 4k or 5k screen. The price is too steep until it becomes more practicably.

the best...so probably the 21.5" 4k will start at 2099$ so the best price for the most nice Desktop all in one computers....Tell me about Hp z1 now :))))

I see that I was right. I said $2499.00 starting base... ;)

Grateful surprised, but still worried about how performs the retina iMac. Anyway I had 3k$ on provisions for tomorrow, apple saved me 500$

Are you getting the CTO M295x and i7? I don't know how big the difference is b/w the M290x and M295x.

I think a 5K iMac (base price) would be slightly less than a combination of base Mac Pro and 4K IPS panel monitor. However, there is huge difference between 4K and 5K. 4K (3840*2160) is 8.3 megapixels. 5K (5120*2880) is 14.75 megapixels. That's 78% more pixels, you can add a 4K monitor and all the pixels on a 15" MBPr and still have less pixels than a 5K monitor.

I can see Apple charging at least $1000 premium on the 5K monitor. There may be other prequalifiers that will push the price higher, only available with highest CPU option and highest GPU choices.

Dude, whoa.
