Obviously, no one outside of Apple knows this for sure, but I was wondering if there was any data suggested in any trends to indicate when Apple will start selling Apple Certified Refurbished models for the iPad Air 2 and the iPad mini 3. Anyone have any insight? If memory serves, last year it was around December/January. With some Apple products, it seems to be near-exactly three months after release. Any ideas?

Could be close to the same time frame. Maybe a tad longer. Of course we don't know.:)

My vote would February/March of 2015 they'll start showing up refurbed.

I agree, we're probably look at Feb/March time frame

What makes you guys say that? Again. Wasn't it January or December this past year? What makes you say that it'll be different this year? I don't mean to discount your theories; I just want to know what makes you give those estimates.

iPad Air (1) didn't show up in the refurbished section until March 2014.
Couldn't find any results searching on macrumors but this site had an article about refurbished Airs dated March 24, 2014:

Why would you wait for a refurb when the brand new models on Black Friday are cheaper than the refurbs would ever be.

Not to hijack this thread, but when the Air 2 refurbs hit the store, can we expect a price drop in the original iPad Air refurbs? Thanks.

WEIRD! I could've sworn that it was closer to January. Goes to show how fragile one's memory is these days.

If my memory serves (and it's unlikely that it does, based on the above lapse), they do drop, but by a fairly small amount, like $10-30.

There are more iPad promos early on. Why even bother with refurb iPads.

Starting with iPad 4. Target was offering $40 or $60 gift cards on day 1! Of ipad 4 launch. I know cause I got like 3 of them.

Target offered $100 gift cards Black Friday 2013 iPad Air

Target offered $140 gift cards Black Friday 2014 Air 2 and best buy had $100 off msrp Air 2.

So waiting for refurbs from Apple store is silly. And other Apple products like macbook air and pro have seen significant sales early in their cycle as well.

The days of getting super savings and having to wait mid cycle for Apple products are over. Even iPhone 6 they were having promo. Best buy gas $200 gift card for new Verizon EDGE activations (essentially $200 savings on iPhones )

Costco has same $200 promo for ATT/Verizon for new NEXT or EDGe as well

If you have a micro center nearby, they seem to be doing $100 off the Air 2 frequently. I got a 16gb LTE Air 2 for $529 last week, and WiFi models were $399.

Nobody here knows, although it is quite odd they still don't have any. Maybe they are waiting on other models to dry up first.

If you are looking at buying an iPad Air 2, I suggest monitoring a deal-searching website. Every now and then you can get a brand new one for $100 off ($399 for 16GB, $499 for 64GB), which is cheaper than I estimate (based off of trends for previous refurb iPads) the Air 2 refurb will be.
