I have a 2011 iMac i7, 21' computer. It appears that the ethernet connection fails to reengage when the it starts up from sleep mode. If I turn the machine off or restart it a few times the ethernet connection re-engages. Wi-Fi is never a problem it only happens with the ethernet connections.

Not sure if it is the NIC or something with the sleep settings.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? 😕

I've had some issues with an iMac running 10.7.3 (only after going to 10.7.3) and using ethernet. I solved it by re-booting the router.

I think there was an EFI (firmware) update to fix this. Have you run system software update and installed all updates available for your machine?

Also... go to the Network area of System Prefs and click where I marked and select Set Service Order, then move the Ethernet one to the top like mine is.
