I'm a new IMac owner and I just had my first problem. For some reason my built -in ethernet has stopped working. In the network panel it doesn't show up at all and in the Network Port configurations panel the option to select is greyed out. I tried resetting the Pram and that didn't work.

this might sound stupid, but create a new user and see if it shows there or not, I don't think it will, but this might eliminate if you threw something away that shouldn't have been, beyond that it may take a reload to see if its software related or it may just be broken

Check system profiler and see if the ethernet port is up and running. The port might be loose in the imac.

Thanks for the help so far. I checked system profiler and there isn't a listing for the ethernet adapter. Also in the hardware profiler there isn't a MAC address listed for it, unlike the firewire adapter.
