What kind of ethernet cable do I need to directly connect two iMacs to run Migration Assistant? The new one is a refurb 21" Intel Core i5 2.5GHz and the old one is a 24" Core 2 Duo 3.06GHz. Both are running OS 10.7.

Any Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet cable will work, you don't need a crossover cable, since Macs take care of that itself.

Thanks! But I have another stupid question: Would a FireWire cable be faster than an Ethernet cable?
If you use Firewire 800, then it would be faster than a 10/100 Mbps cable, but if you use a Gigabit cable (Cat5e or Cat6), then Ethernet is faster, by 20 to 40 MB/s.
