We have an old mac. it is a 10.3 and the internet does not work. we do not know if it is the port on the computer or the computer software screwed up.
is there anything that can test the port so we don't have to reinstall the software?

thanks

I tried that and it did not show up. but it didn't on my other computers either

Check SysProf > Network > Locations. Automatic should show your ethernet configuration. If no ethernet hardware detected, then there is a problem on the motherboard.

Try also SysPrefs > Network > Built-in Ethernet to see if there's an IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router etc. If not, you need to configure your computer with an ethernet router. It goes something like 192.168.1.1.x but you need to check that configuration with your ISP.
