Ethernet port not working on 2009 iMac, what to do

It seems that the ethernet port on my iMac doesn't work and now I get internet only through wireless. However I wanted to buy a new one soon and give the 2009 model to my mom, problem is she doesn't have wireless, so how do i get my iMac to work from ethernet? Any suggestions. :apple:
