I have a time capsule but I need some extras ports now. I also have an extra Airport extreme 5th generation that is not being used.

My question is: Is better to get a and ethernet switch box (unmanaged 5 ports) such as Netgear or TP-Link or connect the airport extreme wired to the Time Capsule and set it with no transmission so I can have more ethernet ports?

Thanks in Advance

Either way will work just fine. The switch would use less power I guess, but if you already have the Extreme, I would just go with that.

I've done this with a powered USB3 switch in the past with the Time Capsule. The only drawback is I was limited by the N speeds connections to connect drives!

Personally - If you aren't destitute, I'd spend the $20 and get a 5 port 1GB switch. Less power consumption and more ports. Using the AE is like using a hammer to kill a mosquito
