Many are using more internet, because they need to get back to machines in the office, from home. Network traffic isn't all Netflix and YouTube.

we do have a 30 minutes video call each day, and sometimes we share screens to do pair programming.
My wife needs to connect to her desktop at work via VNC, many do the same. Apart from calls my internet usage is low during the day but many are experiencing slow networks and it sucks when your trying to work...

how about gov. force ISPs to build a proper network to handle the traffic. Shouldn't this be in place right now any way? The fiber and 5G networks should handle huge loads. I know they can't do it now, but after this pandemic they should think about building a better network.

Telecommunications has become as important as water and electricity and I am for turning telecom into utility, a best of service provided to all by minimum prices.

I do pay for a gym and the government ordered them to close. I’m not going to get my money back, is not their fault.
I do pay for public transportation and I won’t get a refund for these weeks. The list goes on.
My daughter sometimes watches YouTube during the day so my wife is able to get some work done. I’ve already reduced quality from 1080 to 720 so my wife can have more bandwidth.
If people are working from home that’s the priority, at least during business hours.
Hopefully, if forced to reduce quality, Netflix will in some way compensate its customers. We are facing hard times, everybody need to do his part.

Yeah my gym closed and accounts are frozen they will resume when gyms reopen. I don't keep paying for nothing. In what world do you put companies over people? Netflix charges a premium for premium service they don't get a pass because of a crisis. Companies should be feeling this too.

Before you go on about poor business, I'm sure smaller mom and pop gyms can't do the same and will likely go out of business. That's understandable. Netflix is making hand over fist and people are defending them that they still deserve the money even if they can't provide the service. Sorry not into forced charity.

I don't go to the supermarket and if they are out of eggs pay the cashier for eggs anyways to keep the store afloat.

They are providing a cheaper service and bills need to reflect that.

People are using the same amount of internet but from a different location.

Nope,. There's a lot of video conferencing first starters.

My company, like others, have internal servers that we need to access over VPN now we are working from home. That's more traffic.

And the list of extra internet usage goes on...

So why no issues when everyone goes home for the day or on weekends? People don't use the internet during the day for work or school or entertainment at work or school? What about Winter Break? Spring Break? Summer Break? And subscriptions are just that. Subscriptions limit YOUR speeds and don't govern everyone else's speeds who may or may not have a faster or more data allowances.

I literally see people on the internet all day long regardless of location or connection. I agree that the problem will solve itself. If is slows down to unbearable speeds, people will get off and find something else to do. And if you value your work over my entertainment, then you're the selfish one. Your work or my entertainment, or vice versa, has no equity or responsibility to either one.

yes, an the problem lies in the chnge of location. as the traffic hift from buisess subscriptions with low or none oversubscription rates to home/residensial subs with higher over supscription rates, as ususal the last mile residensial infra structure is the largest problem
Ahhh, wrong. If 50 people, for example, are now working from home but were previously working in a corporate environment on a LAN, then those same 50 people can still access the corporate LAN but over the Internet using VPN.

If 50 school-aged kids who were previously in school and not accessing the Internet during classroom study, and are now doing "remote learning", they are doing that over the Internet instead of using the school's LAN.

Now multiply those 50 corporate workers and 50 school kids by many fold and your statement fails miserably.

Really? Work earns money to pay for food and shelter. Your entertainment doesn't. You could just as easily read a book. We can't get paid without using the network. Who is the selfish one here?

Perfect misquote. Fake news 101.
