That doesn't seem to be the case for this device since they clearly advertise dual app protection

No Worldwide Tracking for Android devices

I agree with the comments about family support, this would be way more useful then.

Also the QR code on the back, how long before that’s scratched off?! Surely an NFC chip inside would have been better?

The one thing holding me back from having any interest in AirTags is the fact they can only be tracked by one user. Makes it pretty useless in a family context if I can track our kid's backpack or a piece of luggage or something, but my wife can't. If they ever get their act together and make Find My work better with Family Sharing, I'd definitely be interested.
Am missing something? We have had an iCloud family for years. In Find My I can see all my family devices. We all can.

Same here. Are any of your AirTags though? My understanding is that they only show up for the user they're registered to.

Does anyone know how whether this requires Eufy's servers to remain functional to work?

This is the one thing I never liked either. If it would be some security concern, just make the other person who already added it have to approve the second request to add
Absolutely. There is really no *additional* security concern; if a family can share their own locations as well as locations of their own apple devices with each other under the "Find My" app, Apple can easily use the same mechanism to share locations of "items", i.e. AirTags. It's not rocket science.

Clearly, AirTag is designed by singles, for singles. They have no idea how "family" works.

A family can share their own locations and locations of their own devices with each other in Find My app, but not AirTags.

No idea why. Knee-jerk reaction is "security concern", but there really isn't that much of a security concern if you really think about it.

Maybe they are withholding this feature so they can announce it as an "improvement" in the future.

AirTags is a kinda sketchy market to work in from a product design standpoint. Extenuating circumstances in which they could be used by a bad actor to track somebody for nefarious purposes can exist even within a family. Apple has been softly treading this ground ever since the AirTags launched. I suspect this behavior is a byproduct of that, whether it's fully intentional or not.

If I am willingly sharing my own location and locations of my apple devices with family members, what extenuating circumstances could there be that I don't want the same family members to know locations of my "items"?

Makes absolutely no sense.

Now, if you want to stalk someone else or hide some things from family members, use AirTags registered to another Apple ID; don't use AirTags that are family shared.

This.

example : If one of my teenage children goes to London on a school trip for the weekend and let's say they get broken off from the group, lose their phone/bag/selves and I need to know where they are, a shared AirTag on their person would be helpful.

Apple might think that examples like this are tenuous but the safety of my children comes first to me.

I agree as well, and right now through the Apple ID Family Sharing/Family concept you can already see the Apple devices of all the family members in Find My. This should be an obvious feature to add. I was hoping they'd add it for this year's iOS update though.

Yeah, it's a puzzling omission.

Off-topic, but Family Sharing could really use a shared address book and maybe even a shared email box. (I know, there are ways to DIY those by pointing all the devices to the same LDAP/IMAP accounts, but it would be nice to have native support built into iCloud.)

For these 3rd party find my trackers it seems that if you want to share a tracker you have to use the 3rd app tracking system which forces you to choose between find my or their system.

Is it really difficult to have a dual system in place?

Two situations jump to mind in the event you were, say, fleeing an abusive spouse; you ditch your phone, Macs, etc at home but forget you've got an AirTag in the luggage tag on the bag you hastily stuff some clothes into on your way out the door; you stop sharing your location with family so that said abusive spouse can't use your devices to track you, but your phone doesn't warn you about the AirTag they slipped into your bag because as far as the Find My network is concerned it's a part of your family and therefore must be fine.

As I said, whether the fact that AirTags don't have family-enabled location sharing is a deliberate attempt to curb stuff like that or a byproduct of Apple being overly cautious with the product is something I don't know; I'm not on the development team. But I can see why they might want to avoid that particular feature for the time being. You've got to admit that if there were even one case of serious injury (or worse) as a result of this sort of familial stalking the optics would be pretty terrible for the product as a whole.

Nice. This pretty much improves on everything I’ve wanted on the current tiles I use including the price.

Now all they need to do is make a slim wallet tracker

This is absolutely the #1 fault of the AirTags. I still got a 4-pack when they went on sale, because something is better than nothing, but this shortcoming is a genuine hinderance to usability. I can forgive the lack of a lanyard loop, but this needs to be fixed ASAP.

Fortunately, with dual app support, you can share tracking with other people.

You can always make up "scenarios" to justify any argument, but it is far more likely (and much easier to execute) for an abusive spouse to slip a previously unknown AirTag to track his/her partner than to use a family shared AirTag. This ain't a Hollywood movie.

If a product feature cannot be released simply because it *can* be used in a malicious way, we will be back in the Stone Age.

Exactly, that’s even an argument to add family share to air tag.
I bought 2 just for our suitcases but where they family shared I would have bought a lot more : car keys, bikes, backpack, …
Apple loses a lot of sales on these just because of that.
