Anyone know if this means there will be an update for a Finnish keyboard on iPads bought elsewhere with the official release coming today? Or was that in iOS 4.2?

Yes, Finnish keyboard was introduced in iOS 4.2.

I think this was also the main reason why the nordic countries had to wait so long for the iPad release. It was a pain trying to write Finnish with the US keyboard.

Portugal

There seems to be some indication that the iPad will also show in Portugal tomorrow

My wife needs this but I don't think has upgraded to 4.2 yet (got it as a gift for her and I've hardly had a go on the iPad since I bought it!)...

Yes.

Joys of Apple Retail Store in Amsterdam

Funny how Apple, the brand of minimalism, chooses a location which could well be Europe's epicenter of anarchy. I guess Apple sees free macs for everyone when Ajax wins another title as good marketing, right? ;)

Wow...Leidseplein is at the heart of Amsterdam, a very centralized location with people coming and going from every direction. Prime real-estate to say the least.

Having lived in Amsterdam for several years, I always wondered why Apple hadn't made a move in the city. One of the employees of the various iCenters that permeate the city, told me that it would be a conflict of interest with there private stores. In the back of my mind I knew this was pure bs...and it was only a matter of time before an Apple store took over.

Ah, but we Americans who are Apple fans know that Holland and the Netherlands is the same country and that Scandinavia (excluding Iceland) is part of Russia. :) All of which are in Europe where English words are spelt different.

Second: it's amazing that it has taken it so long for the iPad to make it's appearance ...

One thing is interesting in the above sentence: How you managed to spell "it's" correctly then immediately misspell it. [the pronoun "its" doesn't need an apostrophe.]

Oh come on now. Traditional Finnish doesn't even use all 26 latin letters though it has added ü and ä. This is a far cry from a French or German keyboard with all the cedillas, umlauts, circumflexes, accents, and what-have-you. Granted the keyboard layout might be slightly different but all the necessaries are there.

In the last couple of years a significant amount of Premium Resellers appeared in most places. Most of these stores resemble a real Apple Store and do really good business and service. So much that there's actually no real need for an official Apple Store in The Netherlands, if you ask me.

Actually... if Apple wanted to reach more people in The Netherlands, it would be more logical to open a big store on a more accessible, geographical centered location, which Amsterdam is totally not. Of all places Amsterdam is one of the worst choices available: almost inaccessible by car. If you actually manage to get into town (traffic is a b***h) parking is beyond extremely expensive. Public transport is embarrassing slow. Plus... the part which Amsterdam is most famous for: the location is surrounded by a hotbed of violent alcoholics and addicts.
