Not wanting to make it competitive is a sure sign that you're losing. If you Europeans were ahead you'd be gloating too.

What am I losing? I'm an American - and I've actually work at NASA JPL blah:rolleyes:

Like I said, everyone benefits from success, US or British.

Let it go.

Oh sure, you let us Europeans distract the Martians, then you sneak up on the other side of the planet. Very brave :D

Besides, the NASA probe landed in a boring part of the planet, the Martians probably couldn't be bothered sabotaging YOUR probe!

I think that we have every reason to be proud as a nation with the accomplishment of JPL/NASA on the successful landing of Spirit. According to scientist's this was a make or break deal for the future of Mars exloration. We still need to be cautious there are still potential problems ahead. Also look forward to the successful landing of opportunity on the 25th.

The landing in the Gusev Crater had a lot of obstacles, but with persistence over 2 years in planning they were rewarded. This is an area that looks very likely to have held water at one time.
