Is anyone else watching the Eurovision Song Contest Semi-Final at the moment? I quite liked the Slovenian entry.

Not sure what that Bulgarian backing singer was about though. Beard and high heels, not a good look :D

Oh damn! I wanted to start a Eurovision thread! :D

I luuurve Eurovision so much, it's one of the comedic highlights of my year.

We get it on a delayed telecast here so I won't be seeing any of it until tonight (in about 14 hours) :( I can't wait to see the mayhem! :)

Well, so far the highlights are the aforementioned Bulgarian, and a Russian piano with arms throwing rose petals around :D

Sounds fantastic. I hope the Ukrainian entry Tina Carol isn't too embarrassing.

Edit: Is Terry Wogan commentating? I love his snide little comments.

Tina Carol is on right now. Farrah Fawcett hair and all. No Terry tonight, although the guy doing it is very funny.

And the video clips between songs look like iPod ads

Come on Ireland. What did ye foreigners think of Brian Kennedy? ;)

I've still not forgiven him for Carrickfergus. :D

Tina was okay BTW. Nothing embarrassing, well not in comparison to everyone else.

Oh God, here come Finland's entry!!! :D :D :D :D :D It's like something out of Mordor!!!

He's got WINGS!!!!! And their guitars have fireworks coming out of the end!!! There's the winner!!!

Not in the Jaffa Cake household, I'm afraid. We frown upon that sort of mindless, bubble-gum-for-the-brain rubbish that passes for television these days.

That's why we're watching the Big Brother launch instead. ;)

That's good to know (Ukrainian ties if you hadn't guessed already). ;)

I'm glad she sang the song she did, it was initially going to be something called "Be my queen".

I think she may even get in the final. There's a lot of acts with a chance.

Shame they didn't stay with "Be my queen". They would have picked up more votes :)

We can't get BBC3 at the mo. We can barely get BBC1 or BBC2 until they sort our aerial out.

Still, they've just stuck a fella with Tourettes in there...

In the Big Brother house? That's going to create a few headlines.

By the way, the Lithuanian entry is truly awful. We don't have a vomit smilie, otherwise I might be using it right now. And max was worried about Ukraine being embarrassing. That's the first time I've heard an act get booed.

The Lithuanians always put on a top show. :p Wow, booing at Eurovision, must be really bad.
I can't wait to see it all now! :D

BTW: They put a mother and daughter in our BB house recently.

Davina might be wasting her time with her "This is Davina – please do not swear!" catchphrase... :p

Here's a tip for you BBC Eurovision watchers if you're not already doing it – pop your subtitles on and it'll give you an English translation of the song if they're singing in Lithuanian or something equally obscure.

I like the Swedish entry, although she looks like she's in a gale. Too much wind machine. It's a great nonsense pop song. Any second now they'll be a key change. I can feel it coming.

And there it is!!!

They didn't do anything really awful like three in a bed or anything did they?

There's a great Eurovision drinking game I saw somewhere on the net. Basically if any of these things occur take a shot:
Keychange (2 shots if there's more than 1)
Happy, love, peace are mentioned
Wink at camera
UK gets no points
That sort of thing. :D

Thankfully no. They did have to keep their relationship a secret for a few weeks though.

Good job I didn't know that the year Gemini was on. I think my liver would have packed it's bags and slipped out the backdoor.

BTW, Bosnia's entry is actually really nice. That's not a word I use often in this context.

Ooh, Iceland got booed even before they started singing. She's got a bit of a Gwen Stefani thing going on there.

EDIT: No, it's actually awfu. Like really awful.

EDIT 2 : Man, you are going to love this. She's saying how much she loves them, and all they do is boo.

I won't spoil the results, but in terms of the act before the UK's entry it couldn't be any worse. Daz is going to have to put in one hell of a performance.

Daz is from Stockport BTW :)

I don't know what's worse – the fact that you're willing to admit it, or the fact that you actually seem to be proud about it... ;)

Wash your mouth out with soap. Daz is perfect for Eurovision. He's naff as hell, and that's worth douze points in lots of countries. :D

Kate Ryan didn't make the finals

I liked Iceland. "Congratulations, I have arrived" I loved the act. Too bad she got booed.

I actually liked Ireland. I am rooting for them. They had a very classy performance. Can't say I liked Finland too much though, with their heavy metal and all.
