What a load of crud. It gets worse every year, but hearing Terry Wogan's comments make it all worthwhile
I can't believe anybody in western europe still takes the contest seriously... why they even bother with an entry is beyond me. If I was a singer in any western european country I'd find it a bit of an insult to be beaten but a bunch of cross-dressers.
Besides that, half of the countries aren't even in Europe. Its ridiculous.

I hate the damm commentators speaking over the host's voice and making prude remarks about the singers' clothing.

Yup, we're going to go further and further East until it turns into a Globalvision Song Contest.

Part of me sees the voting blocks; the other part is that perhaps those songs just appeal to people in those countries since it's their style of music - as opposed to that woeful UK entry which was a pastiche of what Brits think Euro-pop is. The Irish and French entries fell into that category too.

The newer countries take it a hell of a lot more seriously than Western Europe does - perhaps the results reflect that?

I'll never forget the night in Dusseldorf when after an American football game finished, 50,000 fans stayed behind to watch the German entry sing in the Eurovision which was streamed onto the giant screen... and then we headed back to the Altstadt where the results were on the screens in every bar.

...I like France!
*shuns gekko*

...What's the bet that these girls make-out after the song?...
I wish I had a TV :(

...*chokes on cider*...
Wait a damn minute, you're not a cider drinker, you never buy cider, the only cider in your fridge is....Oi!

...However, am currently ashamed to be British.
In my defense it's a UK entry not British...
OK is everyone else in the UK cringing right now?...
...see.

...I'm strangely taken by... ...Terry Wogan... ...getting right on my tits...
Well I guess it's better than watching the performances

Second to last!? Bah! An absolute travesty!
Oh hang on a sec, i forgot that Scootch were singing for us... :(
The UK will never win again, we are as different as possible from the rest of Europe. The same goes for Ireland.
Eurovision isn't about music anymore, just gimmicks...
But it is funny to watch, only cos its so ****ing wierd!

I totally agree. Your entry wasn't about music and you were different :p

How ironic! The moment after I post they will not get any points from any other countries, they get 12 points from, of all places, Malta. At least, people won't complain about political voting. :D

If you asked me, it's all blatantly political. I'm not sure if you were being ironic but if you look over the history of Malta, the UK played a big role.

"The occupying French forces were unpopular, however, due particularly to their negative attitude towards religion. The financial reforms and the religious reforms did not go down well with the citizens. The Maltese rebelled against them, and the French were forced behind the fortifications. Great Britain, along with the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, sent munitions and aid to the rebels. Britain also sent her navy, which instigated a blockade of the islands."

Hmm... strangely France was given no points by Malta...

Terry Wogan is a legend.

Well I thoroughly enjoyed it, even though that may have had something to do with having consumed enormous amounts of alcohol during the run-up. Although after seeing it I wanted Ukraine to win, Rowland from Grange Hill did put in a belter of a performance so it's okay with me that next year will be in Belgrade.

I had a thought about the whole mess of the voting though. I think there's three reasons why western European countries never get anywhere:- labour migration, apathy, and failure to integrate into other cultures. Western Europe is stuffed full of Eastern European workers who all vote for their home countries, whereas our home txting generation are so txted out with the myriad "vote for me" shows they simply don't care enough about Eurovision to bother. So all the Western European countries vote for the Eastern European ones whilst they're all busy voting for each other. Meanwhile, down in Spain and Portugal where millions of British ex-pats live, anybody who wants to follow the show does so via the BBC on their satellite dish and ends up not knowing the local voting numbers. Same with the French and Germans down there. Victims of ourselves.

Another implication with regards to next year. With all ten qualifiers already from Eastern Europe, if next year's semi-final is as skewed as this year's was, the only Western European countries in the entire contest will be The Big Four.

Anyway it was still great to watch, except for that bloody awful Slovenian operatic glow-worm and those sodding drummers :)

Dammit! I missed all the Eurovision chat with you lot because it only just finished screening here!

As always, Terry Wogan's comments were priceless. :D

I think the winner was ok, but certainly not my first choice. My personal favourites were Romania and Ukraine (mostly because I'm biased in Ukraine's case, sidenote: it's just Ukraine not "the Ukraine"). And I'm still disappointed that Poland and Montenegro didn't make it through to the final.

However I was more shocked at how well Russia, Turkey and Armenia did. I thought all of their songs were rubbish, especially Armenia's.

The hosts didn't make enough ridiculous banter this year, which I always consider to be a highlight.

I wish it were run every six months. I don't want to have to wait an entire year for it again! :D

You mean they didn't vote for us because they really liked our song? I'm shocked. :p
I like the Scooch song. It's complete bubblegum nonsense, but it doesn't pretend to be anything else.

Douze points from the Fitzrovia jury definitely :)

I'll agree there.

I probably shouldn't say this our of embarrassment, but I went and bought this years CD today...now I'm just waiting on the DVD. (I'm a hopeless case)
We'll probably go the CD route too. Virtually all the acts we liked went out in the Semi-Final so the DVD is probably overkill, but with the CD we can stick it in iTunes and edit out all the rubbish (i.e. Macedonia :D)

I've just done the same - goodbye to Armenia, Albania, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Bosnia, Iceland, Croatia and Latvia - all rubbish. I was close to getting rid of Macedonia but it's growing on me a little bit. :D

How could you have not kept the Czech entry? It was so.....

Yeah alright, it was crap wasn't it? :D
