Well I thoroughly enjoyed it, even though that may have had something to do with having consumed enormous amounts of alcohol during the run-up. Although after seeing it I wanted Ukraine to win, Rowland from Grange Hill did put in a belter of a performance so it's okay with me that next year will be in Belgrade.
I had a thought about the whole mess of the voting though. I think there's three reasons why western European countries never get anywhere:- labour migration, apathy, and failure to integrate into other cultures. Western Europe is stuffed full of Eastern European workers who all vote for their home countries, whereas our home txting generation are so txted out with the myriad "vote for me" shows they simply don't care enough about Eurovision to bother. So all the Western European countries vote for the Eastern European ones whilst they're all busy voting for each other. Meanwhile, down in Spain and Portugal where millions of British ex-pats live, anybody who wants to follow the show does so via the BBC on their satellite dish and ends up not knowing the local voting numbers. Same with the French and Germans down there. Victims of ourselves.
Another implication with regards to next year. With all ten qualifiers already from Eastern Europe, if next year's semi-final is as skewed as this year's was, the only Western European countries in the entire contest will be The Big Four.
Anyway it was still great to watch, except for that bloody awful Slovenian operatic glow-worm and those sodding drummers 🙂
