IoT device is the most prone to planned obsolescence. I hope 90% of such devices old generation don’t end up in landfill as soon as company pull the plug in terms of support.

Though, I seriously doubt it. At least, I don’t see this one can still be sort of used after the firmware update is gone, such as a filter.

Automatic watering valves from companies like Rainbird have been around forever and cost a fraction of what this one does. The primary difference between the older style valves and Eve appears to be that it records the amount of water being used and so it could help people monitor their consumption and lower their watering bills. That may be worth paying for if Eve can last more than a few seasons. And of course, that the company is around to support the app since it's no better than a paperweight if you can't control the thing.
It sounds FAR more sophisticated than it is. You simply set the "flow rate" of the system/spigot and it bases consumption off of time elapsed. It would be far more valuable if it actually measured, but it does not. However, it will track it if you figure out how much water your sprinklers use.
Speaking of which, to the commenters deriding robustness of this, I agree, but I think my use case is probably the intended one for this, that of sprinkler hose, not garden hose. I am not moving the attached hose, the house I bought had a hose-operated sprinkler system installed in the backyard, so this little unit made it a programmable/schedulable smart sprinkler system! Very handy. And being that they are often located outside the home, being able to rely on thread devices closer than the router is definitely a major plus!

I’m stuck with the Orbit for now and have given up on hoping for HomeKit support. The hardware has so far been good but man is their app terrible.
You are so correct! That app should be textbooks of how NOT to design an app.

For me, HomeKit fails about 5% of the time.
The value seems to have a built-in timer and won’t run forever if HomeKit fails a shut off command. At least that is what I’ve heard.

I've been using the Eve Aqua a few years now and finally have it working now that the HomePod is near the Eve, I can even control it when I am away from the house. Measurements of gallons used is a little shady though. Unsophisticated test video, if interested.
