A Thought

I am at a crossroads....

Tough place to be. Goals are dicey things; they can feed us and keep us focused, but can eat us alive when we don't "reach" them.

You have always kept on going. Perhaps doing something different this time would be an interesting experiment. What would happen if you turned your attention somewhere else? Who knows what you might find! The dream will always be there, waiting for you, if you find that it is the place you want to hang your hat once again.

I know just how you feel.

<-- novelist.

You need to ask yourself whether it's even possible to abandon your dream. Seriously, and I don't mean a "Well, I could be a pimp..." sort of idea, but whether you can really trace down all the paths your life could take from this point and say "yeah, it'll be fine either way." If you can really do it, it's just a dream and you can abandon it and go work for obeygiant at the Schaftmunscher, Fellatio, and Rodlicken Accounting Firm.

If you can't even conceive of giving up the idea, well, that's different. That pretty much says everything right there. As a Carnegie (or was it a Rockefeller) said (roughly), you need to put all your eggs in one basket and guard it with your life.

Fear and self-doubt are your worst enemies. Interestingly, most fear and self-doubt doesn't really come from you but from other people who have already given up on your dreams and want you to be "practical" and get an honest job.

And what's the worst that could happen? You'd be a failure? Better that than someone who never tried or who stopped trying.

its true, i dont think ill ever be able to abandon it, but perhaps a break is good.

Not looking for answers, Im very aware these are the type of questions one needs to answer by themselves......My dream is career oriented and im forced to confront it every day.....

perhaps it would be worth your time to seek advice from an outside career counselor? Maybe get a candid assessment of your skills and aptitude in order to see if you really have a good fit with your dream?

For example, I'm reminded of a client who has a fair bit of talent as a designer but no real skill or aptitude for running a business. Unfortuantely, he really really wants to run a business. It's always been a dream of his as far as I can tell......but it's just clearly something he's wasting his time at given his own personnal skill set.

To the OP:

One thing for sure, do not let others tell you what your dreams will be.

They are yours and yours alone.

Life is a journey to be explored and enjoyed how you see fit. :)

As I believe the Chinese say, a journey of a 1,000 miles begins with the first step. Sometimes a dream may be unattainable all at once but can be accomplished through goals little by little.

I hope that I am making sense.

Personally, I've had many individuals ridicule or belittle my dreams in the past. Some basically said that I would never succeed at what I wanted. Well, I decided to ignore them and continue on my path. There have been setbacks along the way. But I've managed to regroup and move forward. Make every day count. :)
