I called the local police once when some house over the field was still blaring out music come 3am. All the neighbours where p**sed off too. Thing is they just won the lottery and they're new to the area. not used to our quiet ways :p Before the police arrived a MUFC and England footballer (no names :p ) knocked on and told them to shut it. it was fun.

Also, mobiles don't need SIM cards (active account) to call 000.
I think most carriers worldwide do that, however, which number gets programmed into there is highly dependent on the carrier.

So if you're like, a Cingular user with a US phone and you try to call 112 in europe with that phone, it's not guaranteed to work. Just an example, I don't know if Cingular does program 112 into the phones they sell here, but better safe than sorry.

I just had to do it last night. My neighbor across the street has a 19 year old daughter and her pothead friends cranking their bass thumping music until 11:45. That is when I assume the cops finally showed up. We live in the "burbs" and my 10 month old (along with the rest of the neighborhood) was trying to sleep. This chick is a real pain in the a$$. She has had the cops called on her at least a half dozenn times over the past year for various reasons. I can't wait until she someday moves out.

I followed them while staying on the phone with the cops to keep an updated location. When the cops pullled onto the freeway with sirens and lights blaring, I took the next exit.
No idea what happened or didn't happen as a result.
In case you were wondering, they never did catch me! :D

We've called the police only over minor things, such as reporting abandoned cars. We obviously need more crimes and disasters to keep things more interesting around here.

I've called the cops quite a bit, once when I was in high school had to call the cops, because someone was trying to break into the house. I've had to call the cops because someone was doing drugs while they were driving, young hoodlums in the neighborhood, as well as unruly dogs. That and the time I was mugged.

So far I've dialled 999 (or UK varient of 911) 3 times in my life.

1st
In rented accomodation about 8 years ago my front door was "flat packed", essentially completely taken out, frame and all by a gang who hit the door that bloody hard it all caved in. This was about 3am or something similar. They rushed through the house looking for my car keys to my Subaru Impreza I had parked outside. It was the early beginnings of not stealing cars as such, but stealing car keys from inside houses. The thugs (6 I think) ran into my room and held me at knife point demanding the keys to my car.

Obviously I gave them ! Immediately they were gone, dialled 999 and they came back, ripped the phone out and took my Denon Stereo stuff.
Called 999 from my cell and in no more than a couple of mins there were police EVERYWHERE. Chopper searching and everything. I was VERY impressed.

The car was recovered some 20 miles away totally undamaged and containing a LOT of very expensive clothing. Police raided their house and recovered my stereo equipment etc... also recovered a BMW M5 and a badly damaged Range Rover. Ran the car for a couple of more years in competition before selling it.... moved house and bought somewhere with a garage !

2nd time
Following a car home from my parents it was clear that the driver was DUI. Called 999 and explained the situation. Gave a commentery of the driver's antics. I eventually passed the DUI car as advised by the Traffic unit heading towards me. Advised to pass and flash at the traffic car to let them know they were approaching car... Very strange flashing a police car going the other way with it's blues on

Got a call back from the Traffic unit to let me know that the person had been arrested for being DUI approx 15 mins later :)

3rd time
Driving up the motorway (UK M6) came across a person walking between the central armco between the 2 fast lanes
Immediately dialled 999 and the Police dispatcher said they'd had lots of calls about this person but no-one could give an accurate location. Gave a location (to within a few hundred yds) and a short while later met a number of traffic units heading the opposite way/

Yes, when my 17" AlBook was stolen right out of my house. It was during a party, where lots of underage drinking was occuring. I was nervous about calling the police, but when they came they were very professional and focused only on the theft, didn't seem to care at all about the party.
