My nickels worth. If Ai interest you might hold off for the new ones later this year.
Not sure how much artificial intelligence Apple is going to input this round in 2024 but its possible.
Ai is not going away anytime soon. So with a new processor in the iPads it might make the Ai side of software future proof just a little longer usability for the future operating system that Apple comes up with.
Next month we should know a little more about the new iPads for sure.
🤷🏼🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️

truth is that i have mini 6 gen and it does everything that Air does. What's the point of buying the Air? or even Pro? I am just wondering. Brownlee mentions 90ghz refresh rate as an advantage for Air, but I don't play games and don't give **** about smooth transitions. I only play online chess, poker and football on iPad and watch Netflix and youtube. What Air can do for me what mini 6 can't?

9th gen iPad is at $250 and $400 for 64 GB and 256 GB respectively. Down from their original prices of $330 and $480 respectively. I already got the former a couple years back at $300, but I probably would've jumped on the former if I wanted one today. Still an extra $150 to get an extra 192 GB of storage :(

I wonder, does Apple quietly give retailers a discount so that inventories of outgoing models can be cleared? We know Apple themselves never discount products in their own store.
My observation is that they allow 3rd party dealers to lower price.

2023 MBP 14" & 16" was released 30 Oct 2023.

As early as 27 Nov 2023 the $2499 model was being offered for $2249.

Today BHPhoto & Best Buy has the $2499 model for $2299.

So I tend to squat on SlickDeals for offers and check AI and MacRumor's Pricelist for other possible deals.

What amuses me is the buy now and don’t buy traffic light system on this website. I know why it’s there, I mean it’s a general guide for a certain group of people… but I think buying a device near the end of its “expected” release is not a bad thing. Especially if they are on sale… and in any case Apple support older devices with hardware repairs and software updates far longer than most competitors.
That, and the iPad with M1 vs M2/3 just isn’t going to be that noticeable for most people, especially on an iPad where the whole experience has been pretty fast for a really long time.

The mini is just too small for my liking.

Ever since the large iPhones appeared, I’ve lost all interest in the iPad mini. I bought an iPhone 7 Plus in 2016, and since then the iPad mini has fallen completely off my radar. In fact, I’d much, much rather have a plain non-Pro non-Air iPad than an iPad mini.

YMMV.

Edit:

And with this Best Buy sale, the iPad Air currently actually costs less than the iPad mini in the US of A.

I've never seen sales like these on iPads maybe due to me ant-social. But this time I'll look into it for sure.

There are decent sales every year - at least in the US - although the sales sometimes get better as the devices get older.

In my experience though the sales are less attractive on average in some other countries like Canada (where I live).

I'd be tempted to buy 7 iPads instead of a Vision Pro to be fair. You can have screens all over the place, and they stay there without wearing a headset.
That’s awesome idea… I’ve already tried it to an extent. I stuck one in my car, one in the toilet, one in the hallway and we have even put one in the cats litter tray (we didn’t want the cat to be excluded and it might do something awesome and I’m sure Apple would be really excited to know what the cat did with iPad)

😀

Man, I’m still using the iPad Pro of 2020 and I don’t see any reason to stop using and buy another one….
Macbook Pro maybe? M1 Max maybe?

I likely wouldn't upgrade from a 2020 iPad Pro model either.

However, in my case, I'm upgrading from a 2017 model. Actually, I already gave my 2017 away to my kid, so I'm using his old 2014 iPad Air 2 at the moment. That's one is truly tough to use in 2024. :)

I also had a 2017 iPad Pro. The battery health was at 81% and it was losing charge a lot quicker lately. I saw that BestBuy had a good trade-in value for it so I went for it before the price drops further when the new iPads come out. I know I could have done better selling it on my own but I didn’t feel like going through the hassle - the BestBuy trade-in process is painless. My intent was to wait for the new iPads but this deal is making me think seriously about pulling the trigger on a 5th Gen iPad Air. My needs for an iPad are not very demanding and getting a 5-year reprieve from a 2017 to a 2022 model sounds good WRT being supported. I have an MBP M3 Pro and a Studio for heavy lifting. It may be time to pull out the gift card from the trade-in. :)
