I can confirm that most of today's websites look worse on the new iPad than on iPad 1 and iPad 2.

Yeah, I have the new iPad in hand and you can definitely tell that all the images are not as sharp as the text. This problem is fixed on apple's website because it loads in new retina images just for the new iPad.

If apple finds a need to update their website, I'm sure other websites (especially those targeting iPad users) will update their images, also.

Surprise surprise, common sense rules the day yet again. I'm still surprised people argued this wouldn't be the case.

It was very noticeable on the iPhone retina displays and it's very noticeable on the new iPad. Some sites are fine, others are just plain bad.

Then confirm it. Post some side by side photos demonstrating where they're worse.

Nobody did that I can see. Of course they're not as sharp as the text. The lack of improvement doesn't degrade anything.

It doesn't make them worse. It makes them not better. There's a big difference. It's like installing a proper surround sound system and then declaring that now Pandora sounds worse than it did before on your laptop speakers. Pandora didn't change in quality. It's not worse.

It utterly defies sense and reality that a better display working with the exact same data can make anything worse.

I know that several websites are already planning to update their graphics for the retina display. Joshua Topolsky of the Verge has already stated that they will be updating their website graphics soon, and I'm sure others will follow suit.
