Don't forget the Mac Pro! Hopefully something real nice in store since it didn't get updated with the Studio up till this point.

all that's missing is the iPhone Air, at least there are two more days left in the week... 👀

All in all... seems like  is loosing their cutting edge approach...
it's what happens when you let the industry show you what they want, instead of providing them with something they never knew they needed.

it was the safest path post Jobs, and Tim chose it while really reiterating nobody could do it like Steve - shame his ethos didn't intertwine with any single employee - sincerely, LoveFrom

*editing to say, AirBnB has really taken the torch of personable marketing to mass markets a bit better than Apple has the last decade. Visit AirBnb.(com) to relive Apple's glory days on the web. Wish it were different

Devices that have not received a refresh prior to Sep 2024

- May 2024 iPad Pro M4
- Jun 2023 Mac Pro M2 Ultra
- Sep 2023 AirPods Pro
- Jan 2023 HomePod
- Oct 2020 HomePod mini
- Sep 2023 Apple Watch Ultra
- Oct 2022 Apple TV
- Sep 2022 Apple Watch SE

What I am personally hoping for is a 2025 iMac 32" 6K with a M5 chip that starts at $1,799 to replace my 2012 iMac 27" 2.5K Core i7.

I'll likely replace my 2019 MBP 16" Core i7 by 2027 or later when it ceases to receive macOS security updates.

Quite underwhelming iPad upgrades…
The 11th gen lacks AI support (and I REALLY hope it has 6 GB of RAM, because 4 GB would be an epic fail), and for the Air I was expecting a ProMotion display, considering the price.

Agreed. They shift from great notions to marketing schemes. I hate the latter but admittedly they leave many wanting more and willing to give up on good systems for newer ones.

all in all, good week. Quite intensive too. Apple reduced prices on new notebooks - who knew? but its a good move in these uncertain times
For all the complains and groans happening… I find it a good week too, although I’m just catching up on the news.

For example, when the first M1 MacBook Air came out it only supported ONE (basic resolutions?) external monitor and people were resorting to USB DisplayLink gadgets (which I had tried before and it does the job for static-ish screens).
Now it supports up to TWO up to 6K screens fluidly.

This was the same that my iMac 5K 27” 2020 with the Radeon 16GB supported (although it chugged at times and they were 2.5K old TB displays).

It might seem “incremental”, but I find it a very welcomed “just incremental” upgrade.

“Apple also added an updated 12-megapixel front-facing camera with Center Stage support, which will be a major improvement over the prior 1080p FaceTime camera.“

Hey MR - instead of just parroting Apple talking points, how about you actually add some value here and convert these values into a comparable format. How does comparing megapixels to resolution help anyone?

This is such lazy writing 🙄

The Macs aren't bad.

The iPad 11 is terrible.
The iPad Air, extortionate.

There is no value in iPads, but I would still choose the 11 if it were 30% off, because there is neither intrinsic nor lasting value in iPads. Every accessory is ewaste and a waste of money. They made that clear with the special keyboard that won't let you upgrade to the Pro model.

Apple doesn't want to upsell you, it wants to segment you into a lane you won't be able to edge out of.
For that reason, all iPads are rubbish.

Macs hold value, however, as you can do pretty much everything and everything you want. You have to have too much money to want an iPad.

Well, Mac Studio M4 Max 40 core GPU is what I would consider my dream Mac-hine.
Configured with 128 GB and 2 TB SSD >>> somewhat pricey though.... (no surprises there)

For the rest, IMHO a mixed bunch, what stands out for me:
  • no AI for new iPad: I hope good news for Education: Hardware is cheaper and no needing to manage it....
  • M3 Ultra: "best what was possible" but, marketing has to use a lower number than "4".

I’m glad they are updating the studio… I love mine.. and it’s the perfect form factor.

I may have to update mine now though.
Agreed. I'm looking forward to my M1 being retired and the M4 on my desk in a few days.

Was expecting to see Studio Display v2 with the next significant Mac Studio update. A bit surprised by its absence.

Apple juice. Yes, good ol apple juice like we used to get with our ‘reduced price meals’ at school in the seventies…

The low-cost iPad was also updated, and it got an A16 chip instead of the A14 chip. The A16 chip decision was a bit of a surprise because some rumors said it would get an A17 Pro for Apple Intelligence support, but that didn't happen. If you get Apple's cheapest iPad, which starts at $349, you won't get Apple Intelligence.
Nobody in the market for that model will be worse off for not having Apple Intelligence, seeing how the rollout has gone 🤣.

Does the new iPad Air finally get rid of the fingerprint unlocking? That about the only reason I could see buying a new one - that hand isn’t always available for unlocking because that’s the one the cat likes to sit on
