There is always the base, so the phone is in portrait. At 1 degree resolution the shorter distance isn't a real killer.

To do it flat with the camera bump, (or the long edge too), you can place the phone on a reference surface that you know is level and tap the number, which zeros the phone including the bump. As long as you roughly keep the same direction, level then shows the difference to the reference - including the bump being taken into account.

Also handy if you want a bunch of stuff at x degrees. Set up one, zero the phone, adjust your second object to the zero (reference) position.

A second tap of the number returns to non-reference mode.
All fair points to consider. I have honestly forgotten you can zero by tapping, and I did think about the base and top being flush but felt the surface area was too small for precise measurements, especially in a case. But thinking about it, that’s silly. :)

They made the one thing you want easily visible in the bubble level transparent??
Well, technically that’s just a visual element while the degrees, you know, the number in white in the middle of the screen, is what’s actually to be considered.
But I do agree that it’s a weird choice and that that was my first thought looking at the picture, too.

"Enhanced Safety Alerts are delivered by Apple and will appear and sound different to a Government Alert sent by your local government."

I believe it is illegal for phone manufacturers to send such safety alerts, at least in my country. This responsibility solely lies with the government.

Private companies are not permitted to issue such alerts in an official capacity and can only operate within their own information systems, without elevating them to the status of official state communications. Sending safety alerts by private entities that could be mistaken for official notifications is illegal and may result in sanctions.

15 pro max, phone app is a mess, tapping on top right sort icon crashes the app (so I can't access voicemail settings), same with going into a contact and tapping the phone icon, crashes. voicemail never picks up/call goes to silence/no accept vs decline buttons. during a call, tapping "more" launches into voicemail but no greeting is played to the caller.

Well, iOS 26.2 beta 2 has been installed on my older phone with 81% battery health, and it's doing just fine. This 81% battery health has been consistent for nearly a year. I don't see any reason to buy a new iPhone, or any phone for that matter. By the way, CoconutBattery states that the battery health is 83.4%, not 81%.

It's actually a much larger problem: anything with a dropdown, including a dropdown inside of a website in safari, crashes the app. photos, music, phone, context menu inside mail compose, etc.

Haha ok sir, I'm all in. iPhone, ATV, MBP, Mac Mini, iPad, AWU2 - all living in the past currently!

Its crazy as this is the first time I've held out this long - some improvements have me curious, but the trade offs I'm seeing just isn't worth it.
I too with every version upgrade install it and see if it is better and then downgrade back to macOS Sequoia. I don’t think I have ever did that in my history so many times, even on my M4 Mac mini which is new (a few weeks ago).

Is big hair on a round-a-bout surf safari and giving the responsibility to the kiddies at Apple?

When the power button was still on the top, the right edge could be used for that, but after that not really anymore.
The bottom of the phone is the easiest to stand perfectly flat, plus, when you’re handy, you can make anything happen. If you just put the phone on the edge of the surface so the button is ahead of the surface, it’s perfectly flat. And easy to do.

You want the touching edge to be as long as possible to minimize error, and also in the middle of what you are measuring, not at the edge. It's also difficult to stand an iPhone on the bottom short edge, because the camera bump is tipping it off. To be honest, I've given up on using an iPhone for levelling, it's just too wobbly and imprecise.

Liquid Ass is like a cancer
What it looks like is Apple is having A.I. design the code…a possibility.

Both iOS26 and macOS consistently have bugs that were worked out over the last few versions and the. Pop up again randomly.

And example: M3 Macbook Air 24GB 2TB SSD (fully loaded Air) froze. A message popped up and said “system paused, memory full.” After sleep mode.

These random bugs looks to me that Apple “may” be working to allowing machine learning to “learn” to code their OS’s. Too many random bugs that show me they are either recoding or something’s up.

Very “sloppy” coding for a trillion $ company that are paying coders high salaries. Some thing is up at Apple. This is embarrassing to say the least.

I am still “trying” to accept iOS26. I am ok with trying new things and changes etc. I am usually first adopters to at least “see”.

But…over the last month, almost every week, one Mac at a time goes back to macOS Sierra. Today…my last Mac (M3 Air) could not take it anymore and went back too. My last newer Mac.

My iPhone…still hanging in there, but it is also loosing patience also…

Come Apple…you can do better than this.

You don’t care if they’d skip a year of updates, but the rest of the industry would. And the most important of them all? Wall Street and Shareholders.
So Wall Street is at fault? Wall Street is giving us poor updates? That’s what you’re saying?

I get your point, but the blame for Apple Intelligence, Siri, iOS26 et al, lies solely on Apple.

I love Apple and I think we take a lot of stuff for granted about how good it is to use their systems, so there is a lot of griping from others and forgetting what we do have. But I have to say this update has really puzzled me from a company that obsesses about their product packaging to put out something like this that seems to be design driven by their AR headset and pushing that look into all their other products without a lot of forethought.

How about fixing the Timers feature in the Clock app so that it doesn't create another instance when I use the same timer? For example, every time I use a 33 second timer (physical therapy reps), it adds another 33 second timer to the list. Then, when I try to delete duplicates, it deletes all 33 second timers. Not good.
