If Apple makes glossy screens standard, I'll be really annoyed. Anyways, I hope Apple will put a DL Superdrive in the 15". I highly doubt that it will have 802.11n - it isn't even standardized yet.

If Apple ends up putting a super graphics card in the MBP that gobbles the juice, is there any reason why if you want better battery life, if ur just typing or something, why you can't throttle back the card to a minimum? I realise Apple doesn't have a tool for this, but is there any chance of this in an update, or couldn't we just use an ATI app?
Pre-emptive Cheers for any response

EDIT: What about shutting it down completely and using Quartz (Extreme, whatever) or something so the CPU does the work? Is this even possible, or practical?

From what I've heard, the X1600 in the 17" MBP actually throttles itself. Could be just a rumor, but I think that's what's been said. I can't confirm it as I have a 15"... but yeah.

An "ATI Tool" for Mac OS X would be lovely. Then I could underclock my X1600 to 150mhz or so when I'm just browsing the web and overclock to 430mhz when I'm playing WoW.

I thought one existed already?

The name "ATIcellerator" comes to mind. I think that's it. It would no doubt be found at the ATI website. I don't have a link (sorry I'm lazy) but I know they have a whole lot of software there that I found. (Or maybe that's nVidia???)

But it's still ATI software, and therefore is automatically inferior to Apple software. Although the Apple software doesn't exist. Hopefully yet.

Come on Apple! A novel way to improve Battery Life, while making your customers happier has got to be a good thing!

How bout 4GB RAM?
I love X1800 and Merom 2.33

the next rev will have improved cooling and a small cpu speed increase. up 200 mhz. i would be very pissed if the macbook pros are still hot.

ATIcellerator doesn't work for the X1600 right now :/

Hopefully we can get 4 gbs of ram... Or do we have to wait for a new board?... that'd be lame...

On the ATI as far as I know the only way to overclock it is to run windows... but hey I dont even have a mac yet so what do I know.

Not made by ATI.

I'm afraid you're in for a rude awakening.

I think it already supports 4GB, but the SO-DIMMs are too expensive (even as an option).

Ah well. Sorry to get ur hopes up. I only thought it did. If you change the clock in Windows, (which poppe said u could) will that change the clock in Mac? Obviously this would drive you bonkers (restarting all the time, and doesn't xp take almost a minute to start up?), but at least it would be something.

I don't know whether or not heat output would make this a feasible option, but I would love for the MacBook Pro to be released with a redesigned case in the style of the regular MacBooks, in black and white. Especially if this would actually bring a reduction in heat issues and better distribute it out of the notebook, moreso than the current brushed steel casing.

same here.

we are likely to see the x1600 stay as nothing newer in that power envelope unless they switch to the 7600 but there's not much point and it's more power hungry.
Sure there is... Mobility x1800 or x1800xt which either one would PWNNNNN! I'm completely happy with my x1600 though, fabulous gpu for this setup.

Support for 4 GB of RAM would be nice.
Magnetic Latch
Rotating iSight maybe
160 GB HD
Merom Processors

But all I think will really happen is a magnetic latch and Merom processors.

Redesigned case is definately on the horizon too, I wouldn't count that out yet :)

No Don't listen, put 2.33 merom in the 15.4" as well, support for >2GB RAM (give us a 3rd or 4th slot), and we MUST HAVE MATTE SCREENS AVAILABLE.

Matte is very important for people who are creative professionals who want to see a truer output than what a glossy screen will show (it oversaturates and makes it too contrasty), and I don't want glare! my last notebook had a glossy screen, it was near impossible to clean and even worse in terms of glare.

I just want to see merom and the computer to be less buggy and hot. I know it won't ever be very cool, but maybe the warmth of a powerbook would be appropriate

Mip. Yes, Apple should definitely keep the matte screens (although I haven't seen one of the glossy ones, so I don't know what they are really like. They could be absolutely awesome, without any glare, I don't know.)
And fine, put in the 2.33 and 4gb RAM. Just don't deny us our 512mb x1800.
