Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says this will be the biggest update Apple has made to the iPhone's design since iOS 7 was released in 2013, and it's not just cosmetic, either.

Apple is planning to overhaul icons, menus, apps, windows, system buttons, and more, while also tweaking navigation and control.
Those are all cosmetic, ace. Knowing Apple as we do, odds are we'll lose some functionality as well. But hey at least it will all look...meaninglessly different.

I’m honestly starting to get turned away from MacRumors for reporting what Gurman says. He’s ALWAYS wrong yet they keep giving him space.

I’ll say it: iOS 18 was a bust and half of the promised features never came, so all devices that ran 18 should run 19 as a mea culpa.

iOS 18 wasn’t even iOS 17 Service Pack 2. It was Apple Intelligence Apple Intelligence Apple Intelligence! And it never really became much more than some photo stuff and writing tools. Siri is still dumb as ever.

They have to do something. Those Samsung phones are looking better and better everyday. The tech in them is like 30 years in the future. Whoever denies it is living in a cave. The only problem is that google makes you the product. If you could turn off more google, I might have to switch

iOS18 isn't finished and is a terrible OS. slow and buggy as ****.
Either Apple needs to get things right and optimise the OS or just pull the finger out..

Definitely it will have a staggered roll out. Not pinning any hopes on Siri and Apple Intelligence. Waiting to see the rumored design overhaul.

It is hard to hear about 19 when Apple can’t keep it’s promises on features for 18! Maybe Apple will give us the features in 18 with the release of 19.

These 2 images pretty much sum up how i feel about the next update.

One thing I really, really want is for it not to take 8 screen presses to block a number from messages and delete and report the message as spam.

It is ridiculous.
I never understood Apple’s logic for imessage spam reporting. It always offers the spam option when deleting messages from stores saying its time for pickup but it is hit or miss when you get a real spam message.

Need Apple to remove more user customization options like when they took away the ability to reverse the volume buttons in the ipad’s landscape mode.

I fear another bug riddled mess with many 'why the heck did they change this into that?' experiences... They can't get Apple AI to work as it is, so uh yeah... why would this be a success? There are already a lot of iOS design 'features' that have me scratching my head. Nothing brings the current problems as clearly into focus as having to explain how to change some setting to an elderly relative that just got a new iPhone.

Example: I want to restrict and manage access to my contact list in Signal (Whatsapp, Telegram,...) because I loathe data scraping apps. It is insane the hoops you have to jump through to do this. It is almost as if... Apple really does NOT want to you to manage access. Do you have MLO WIFI at home? Good luck with that... iOS refuses to automatically jump to a faster non MLO connection even after you lost connection. How do you operate Apple HomePods without shouting at it? Why can I not select music from my iPhone independently from my HomePods?? Where is this hidden?

I'll stop here now. There are just sooo many stupid things going on in iOS18.

/end rant
