The way the article is written, it makes it sound like the iPad mini 6 doesn't support C-band on Verizon and AT&T, while in actuality it does (at least on Verizon).

It does happen often Apple announces something aimed at the Educational market during the Spring event.
No rumours on that this time?

As a current Air 4 owner, the fact none of the proposed updates are useful to me is a welcome bit of news. The Centre Stage feature would have been nice but I’m not exactly having a poor FaceTime experience on the current Air anyway.

A PRODUCT RED iPad Air would be an instant buy for me.
I requested “(product) red” feature to “apple product feedback” for the iPad mini 6 (bonus mid launch)-7(with launch day), you can too

This article is thin gruel - there is literally nothing to say. But they felt the need to say it anyway.

Idk problem with the midrange iPad is usually that the last gen Pro model can be had for a similar price used or sometimes even new.

Apple is working on an updated version of the iPad Air, and the new tablet is set to launch this spring at an event that's expected to be held on March 8.

iPad-Air-Feature-2-teal.jpg

We're not expecting too many changes to the iPad Air, but there are a few updates, with everything we know outlined in this guide.

Design

The iPad Air is expected to look identical to the current model, with no outward-facing design changes planned. It's possible that Apple will introduce new color options to set the updated models apart from the existing iPad Air, which comes in silver, space gray, rose gold, green, and sky blue.

ipad-air-colors.jpg

Like the iPad Pro, the iPad Air features an all-display design, but it does not include Face ID. Apple instead uses a Touch ID Power button for authentication purposes. The tablet will continue to feature Touch ID, and it will have a 10.9-inch display and a USB-C port.

While there are no physical changes expected, the iPad Air will adopt features that were first introduced in the iPad mini 6, its sister tablet.

5G Connectivity

Like the latest iPad mini, the updated iPad Air will adopt a 5G chip that will allow it to connect to 5G networks. The chip in the iPad mini is limited to sub-6GHz 5G networks rather than the fastest mmWave 5G networks, so it's possible we could see this same limitation in the iPad Air, but not guaranteed.

Apple-5G-Modem-Feature-16x9.jpg

Sub-6GHz 5G is the more widely available version of 5G that can be found in urban, suburban, and rural areas across the United States and other countries, while mmWave 5G is more limited in availability and in range.

AT&T and Verizon have recently expanded their 5G networks with C-band spectrum that improves the availability of mmWave networks in the U.S., so it's possible Apple will take this into account when updating the iPad Air.

Updated Processor

We're expecting the iPad Air to get the same 6-core A15 chip that's in the iPad mini 6 and the iPhone 13 lineup. Apple downclocked the A15 chip in the iPad mini, so it runs at 2.9GHz instead of 3.2GHz as it does in the iPhone, but it's not clear if the same clock speed will be used for the iPad Air.

a15-chip.jpg

With the downclocked A15, the iPad mini is around two to eight percent slower than the iPhone 13 when it comes to CPU performance, but either way, it will be an improvement over the A14 chip in the current model.

Center Stage and FaceTime Camera

Rumors suggest the iPad Air will adopt an updated 12-megapixel Ultra Wide front camera that will work with Center Stage, a feature first introduced in the iPad Pro and the iPad mini 6.

ipad-mini-center-stage.jpg

Center Stage is a FaceTime feature designed to keep you in focus and perfectly framed when you're on a FaceTime video call. The wide-angle front-facing camera shows more of the room that you're in, while the processor inside the iPad works to keep you front and center even as you move around.

If more than one person is participating in the call, the camera will zoom out to attempt to keep everyone in view and make sure they're part of the conversation. Though designed with FaceTime in mind, Center Stage also works with other third-party video apps like Zoom.

As for the rear camera, it is expected to continue to feature a single-lens setup, though Apple could add a quad-LED True Tone flash, which would be a new addition as the current iPad Air does not include a flash option.

Other Features

We are not expecting any other notable changes in the iPad Air. Because the body design is staying the same, it's unlikely that we'll see any significant updates to the battery life.

USB-C support will continue to be included, and it will be compatible with Apple accessories that include the Magic Keyboard and the Apple Pencil 2.

Pricing

iPad Air pricing is not expected to change, and it will likely be priced the same as the current iPad Air. Existing models start at $599 for 64GB of storage, with 256GB available for $749. We haven't heard rumors about storage changes, and the iPad mini 6 also starts at 64GB storage.

Release Date

Rumors suggest the refreshed iPad Air is going to be released alongside an updated version of the iPhone SE at an event that's set to be held in March. Right now, Apple is targeting Tuesday, March 8 for the event.

So is it going to cost more than 50% of its value when you have to replace the screen after dropping 2 feet? Sorry but no Apple not buying your defective products anymore

No buy for me at 64GB base storage, would want 128gb for base price

256gb update is too bad pricing compared to iPad Pro 128Gb.

The Ipad Air 5 will sell like hot cakes, and vastly out sell and cannibalise sales of the higher tier IPad Pro 11, despite people saying they do not understand why it exists or whatever. For the vast majority of Apple consumers, the entry level Ipad and IPad Air fills their needs perfectly and the sales reflect this.

Indeed - I dont think the 11 inch pro has any real purpose other than to make people decide to go for the 12.9 inch model.

Looks like an incremental but solid update to the Air lineup. Would be nice if it comes in some nice bright colours.

I really hope there are iMac updates presented because this is going to be a snooze fest otherwise lol.

iPad Air is a very nice product though.
Myself as well. I'd take iMac, Mac Mini, or MacBook Air.

I was trying to wait for a 2nd gen. Apple Silicon for MBA as my current MacBook is 7 years old, but I got a gen.1 Mac Mini a year ago to hold me over.

Apple's great at releasing iPhones every year so there's no reason not to update their macs once a year as well. The least they could've done is release an updated MacBook Air with a gimped M1 Pro chip. That would have held off the masses.

Now they'll have to release MBAs with M2s but gimp those so they don't outshine current M1 Pro/Max MBPs.

It made sense to issue low end M1s first so as to reduce cannibalization of final gen. Intel MBPs.
Once those were out, though, it doesn't make sense to issue new generations of chips without the flagship.

AMD, Intel, and Nvidia have all learned to start new generations of chips with a flagship processor. It's what customers want. It doesn't matter if M2 is slower than M1 Max if it's released alongside or after M2 Max, because nobody will have to choose. Yet when the only choice is M1 Max or M2, a lot of people will choose M2 over the faster M1 Max just because it's a bigger number. "Think Different" works when there's genius behind the thinking. It doesn't work when it's "be different for the sake of being different."

I am going to go with a positive wild guess that the IP air is going to get the M1 chip this year, and all the PRO models will get the M2 or MAX/PRO varients. Bla bla bla! :D

Will we ever get a FaceTime camera on the long edge? The current camera angle is awful when in horizontal mode (which I use 99% of the time). How about 2 cameras?

I’m going to say we will get new colours like starlight or midnight, they’re the new silver and space greys for Apple.

The Air is the perfect iPad for those that want a great tablet with decent features Like pencil 2 support and USB-C.

Not a big fan of those but as long as they leave the green alone, I’m fine with it ?

On that note, I was a little disappointed with the purple on the iPad mini. That looked way more intense on the website than it does irl.

The word “Plus” is reserved for the size of an Apple product. It’ll be called the ProMotion Pro.

But in reality, it’ll never be more than 120Hz, most people won’t be able to tell the difference at that frequency. It’s like the “Retina” once they get to the point we’re most eyes can’t see a difference, then there is no point. It’s why iPhones don’t have 4k resolutions.
Not true, AppleTV+ (Software/Service), MBP, iPhone Pro/Max (Hardware), etc.

I just don’t want to go through safari keep on refreshing, reloading, and some apps crashing over and over. Ever since I got 6GB on my iPhone it never crashed. I just want the same for the iPad.

Sounds like a shutdown and reboot may resolve the issue or maybe an iPadOS bug. Strange enough I had an app on another iPad Pro with 6GB RAM just randomly crash. Why do people just think it’s the hardware and not the OS or some app that causes these issues.

To me it's pretty surprising they're (still) selling a 64GB for $600. My iPad Air 2 (2014-2017) came with 128GB. The price of the 64GB iPad Air hasn't changed since then, but for only $100 more it made sense then to buy the 128GB with twice the storage for $700. Even though I use iCloud for almost everything it seems silly they're charging $600 for 64GB.
Apple has signalled that base storage for entry/consumer devices will be 128GB look at iPhone 13. Mini 6 team may not have received the memo or the decision to leave it at 64GB was related to chip shortages or making it seem like better value compared to the Air 4 or to also curb demand and maintain Air 4 sales along with iPad Pro entry model sales.

Air 5 will come with 128GB base storage and Air 6/Mini 7 will have 128GB base storage and 6GB RAM. iPhone 14 Pro and iPad Pro will have 256GB base storage or Apple may milk it for another round.
