I'll probably cover Smart Folders, because they're easy to set up and understand, but are probably underutilized. Not so sure about Automator. I've tried it myself but found it to be arcane and not terribly useful.
Discuss the pros and cons of partitioning, when it's appropriate, and when it's superfluous.
I know you know this already, but just in case, drill into their heads the necessity for backing up!
I concur about Automator, I found it hard to use to do what I want, something I could whip up a shell script to do in about 1/2 the time.
