    Good riddance:

    - It's 50 year old technology
    - Not having the headphone jack will allow Apple to make to the iPhone 7 even thinner
    - Many people are transitioning over to wireless headphones for the convenience.
    - Expect new wireless ear pods to debut by Apple that may or may not use sensors to determine the position of your head. why?

So if you're listening to a track and hear a specific instrument in the left ear if you turn your head left the instrument will pan to the middle and eventually to the right ear if you keep turning. What live music is supposed to sound like.

then again, this is the "magical" Apple in my head. Tim Cook's Apple may just remove the jack and charge $29 for a lightning > headphone jack adapter and stop shipping with headphones altogether to save 20 cents.

    Edit:

-removed statement about lack of headphone jack making waterproofing the device easier.

Couldn't that mean anything really. As in the headphones are not plugged in etc. Not saying the rumors aren't true. But that line is vague.

that could be many things, and I don't see the word "jack" there. Maybe that is for checking if anything is plugged into headphone jack, possibly to mute the built in speaker if something is?

Where you get that from? How many iphones and ipods did Apple sell this past year? It is my opinion many of those people just use what came with their device, and probably is alot of wired ear buds out there, many more than the most people that have wireless ones.

Not sure what the headphone jack has to do with waterproofing? Is the lightning jack going away too ?

Beg to differ... Haven't seen nearly the amount of wireless compared to wired...

why is wireless headphones protocol better than wired?
    - more expensive to buy quality wireless headphones. The sennheiser momentum is $150 wired...$349 wireless. That's a stupid pricepoint.
    - requires yet another charging brick
    - high end headphones are almost always wired - I for one have multiple headphones. all wired with the exception of one. For example, there are no multiple armature driver headphones out there with bluetooth, yet. and once they do make them, it won't be in the $200 range that they are at now, when wired.
    - less compatibility (aux cables in cars)

yes people will adjust eventually. but i just question the motive. it doesnt make the iphone better, the waterproofing theory is a joke. the lightning cable and the microphone and speakers all require ports.
No, they're doing this simply for the sake of change and to boost Beats sales.

The next iPhone will not run iOS 9 so why do some thing like that in the code for iOS 9 and no wait to iOS 10?

removed the waterproofing statement as can't recall the source where I read that.

Almost everyone at work here has wireless headphones. I see the opposite. I guess it depends on the environment.

Isn't the next iPhone rumored to be the 4" version of the iPhone 6? Maybe it won't have a headphone jack. Lol.

Why fix something something that ain't broken? Bluetooth and other wireless products are not very reliable. I rather have the wired earphones than wasting battery life on wireless. I like wireless earphones at times..but depending on it fully is ridiculous.

Maybe I'm the exception but I want the plain old headphones that plug in with a jack. I use the same headphone on my iPhone, iPad, several computers, and plugging into the tv/music system on the gym equipment. I don't want to start having to use a different one for my phone than for other devices. I'm not a big music buff so I really don't care that much about music quality. I sometimes do conference calls (an hour or more) using my iPhone so I need to have it plugged in and use the headphones. I don't care about thinner phones - it is plenty thin.
Ok so I'm the exception but. What is next the USB end of the chargers etc. So then I won't be in the plug into a car? Or just buy several hundred dollars worth of accessories for something that works great today.

I'm all for wired headphones for quality but they are so inconvenient when it comes to the wires getting tangled up or snagging on something.

So many times just rolling my chair back at my desk has made my wired headphones go flying off my head because the wires got caught on the arm rest.

As per rumor you will use the Lightning connector for wired headphones. I'm guessing some sort of adapter will be available for headphones with a standard 3,5 mm connector.

I hear you. It comes down to this: conveniently vs quality. Yes, the wired earphones do bother many people, but i would gladly give it up so that I wouldn't waste much battery and whatever else is being affected.

I don't care either way as I haven't plugged in earphones on this phone yet. But if they do go lightning, it better be sturdier than the **** cable they give us for charging.

Tell me about it. I have 4 authentic Apple lightning cables and all of them are frayed.

the thing is...wireless headphones work well TODAY....even when the headphone jack still exists and continues to work well.

so we're not arguing wireless headphones vs wired headphones here... they're not mutually exclusive..

we're arguing wireless headphones + wired headphones (ala current iphones) vs. ..... thinner phone and having another brick to carry around +more $$$ to spend on earphones + wireless headphones

I fail to see how this is evidence of "no headphone jack". What exactly is the evidence? Can someone interpret the picture in OP for me? To me it is just the mention of the word "headphones" in a random byte string for which the origins are unclear to me.

    What if Apple shipped
If Apple shipped the iphone 7 with something like this would that change your mind? discreet, comfortably fits in the ear.

I'm almost 100% sure it will cost exactly $29.

no because again, that thing would still work on my existing iphone 6.....
and i can still use my existing iphone in my car and with the many earphones i already own.
    whereas a phone without a jack wouldn't...

i'm all for bluetooth. I love the advancements in bluetooth. but im against taking out the headphone jack, for no apparent reason.
