Has anyone else experienced this problem with Excel 2008 after installing SP1? Attempting to open any existing spreadsheet fails, with Excel just opening a blank sheet instead. Microsoft were "aware of a problem" with SP1 which they claimed to have fixed with update 12.1.1, but as per usual and what we should perhaps expect with Microsoft, the "fix" makes no difference whatsoever, and I still can't open any of my existing spreadsheets! Their "workaround" also has no effect. I am running an Intel Mac with OS X 10.5.4 and Office 2008 12.1.1, any assistance gratefully received!

Hmmmmmm... opens fine for me

Takes friggin forever, but it opens the right sheet

ditto

I'm having the same issue with ONE of my accounts on my iMac but not others. I've deleted all of the MS related prefs from the problem account but it still doesn't work.

Anyone else have an idea?

This thread is so old I can't remember how I fixed it, but I DID fix it! All I can say is ensure you have the latest patches installed (12.2.3). One thing I recently had (similar) issues with was filename extensions, and whether or not you include these, but in connection with another app.

Roll on Office 2010 (and the long-awaited re-write)...
