I wonder whether Safari in IOS 11 has a bug. I used over 4GB of data in under a month. Without doing anything like watching videos. Since I first bought an iPad, the most I had used in a month was 4GB, when I was on unlimited, so finally changed plans to the 5GB over 150 days on T-Mobile.

So on the 20th I renewed for another 5GB. Got warning about 4.5GB of data since then.

At least the rate is low, but I expected 5GB to last 2-3 months.

    iPad Mini 4.

I have cellular data off for app store, since that was a big data hog on unlimited.

You can check the cellular data usage for each app.

Go to Settings > Tap on Cellular > Scroll down to cellular data section > Choose to display data usage for This Billing Period or Last Billing Period.

Also, scroll all the way down to Wi-Fi Assist to check the cellular data usage.

It is almost 900 meg just the last couple days. Almost all in Safari.

I'm not doing anything different on the iPad than on my iPhone.

I turned off Wi-Fi Assist just now, I'll see if that is the issue.

    Thanks,

I'm going to try a different ad blocker, and maybe a different browser. I wonder whether, since many sites treat the iPad differently than the iPhone, it is sending more data in the back end. Excessive data usage again today.

The wi-fi assist change wasn't applicable since I don't use Wi-Fi when I'm not at home anyway. But going from 1-2GB a month to nearly 2 GB in the last 3 days. Either something changed on my side, or some web sites have changed their behavior.

I experienced the same thing with my iPad. I had a 5GB plan that I very rarely went over. Then it started using crazy amounts of data. Some months it was in the 7-8 GB range without actively using it anymore than I did a few months ago. I thought maybe it was losing WiFi signal at home but was never able to find the problem. I later goto an unlimited data plan so I don't worry about it anymore,

Turn off Safari iCloud syncing. That does eat a lot of data for some reason. I experienced much improvement after I disabled it. If you want to sync bookmarks, etc. across devices, use Chrome and a Google login across your devices.

I think Safari iCloud syncing is a great feature. I like being able to pull up sites that are on my other devices when I need them. The thing is to figure out why these devices are using more data than before when they aren't actually being used more.

I'll give that a try. Usage dropped dramatically when I started using Opera Mini, but I like Safari better (or am just more used to it).

Can you still get this plan? Or have you had it for a while?
