Hi

Running 10.11.4 on MacBook Pro (same issue with current non-beta release of El Capitan on recent Macbook Air).. issue with Exchange account (Exchange server is 2010 SP1) started with El Capitan. I have several accounts configured in Mail (iCloud, Exchange and a couple of IMAP accounts). The issue I am experiencing is only with the Exchange account... it keeps going offline about once every minute. The message I get is:

"Online Status
This account (name of account) appears to be offline due to a network problem. Do you want to try to go online now?"

When I choose take account online, it connects.

I have tried to change settings in Mail for account (unchecked auto discover, SSL etc) but same problem. I also removed and put back the account.. same problem. As I said, I did not have this issue before El Capitan. I can not find threads on this and I can not work out why. I considered using Outlook 2016 instead but the Exchange server is below minimum requirements of SP2. Any ideas?

I don't have a definitive answer as to why this is a "new" issue with your client/server combination. I do know from experience that the error messages are by no means new - I owned and used 2010SP1 on my company's server while using Snow Leopard.

The issue/conflict was an MS bug that was addressed/fixed in SP2 - after SP2 was installed on my Server those issues/error messages disappeared forever. Hey, I bookmark this stuff...
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2494798

Our temporary fix was to remove the offending accounts, then add them again - but the timeouts always reappeared. Installing SP3 or SP2 was the only fix that stuck. The only other temporary fixes that I'm aware of are turning off Autodiscover or checking your SSL credentials - another application could be using/blocking the relevant ports. Good luck...

Thanks for the reply. I installed Little Snitch and blocked everything other than Mail and the problem did not go away. I also started in Safe Mode.. ditto. Defeated, I switched to Outlook 2011 which is less than ideal but at least it is stable (until the database crashes!).

If anyone has other suggestions, please jump in.
