Exchange after refresh?

Sorry if this has been covered, but my search has not found the answer.

I'm in dire need of a new MacBook Pro (been trying to hold off for wwdc, but can not). I recall reading that Apple will exchange if there is an update released within 30 days. Any truth to that? Of course I'm assuming its case by case...

Apple has a 14-day return policy. Anything beyond that is up to the rep you deal with (some may accept exchange for free or for a small charge, others may simply cite the return policy), so it would be a gamble.
