Hi All,

I had a 3G for a couple weeks, now a 3GS. I have the enterprise data plan.

In the mail application the 'FROM' field shows as:

SMITHJ (AD Username) or john.smith@externalcustomer.com (email addy)

instead of:

Smith, John (Display Name)

I appear to have the same settings as several of my colleagues who are not experiencing this frustrating problem.

Any thoughts?

On my iPhone, the inbox for the Exchange account on there shows the Display Name on the inbox listing. As soon as I open an individual email, the From field will show "Firstname Lastname" instead of "Lastname, Firstname". This is the case for internal emails. Any external emails received on my Exchange account show up with the full email address in the From field.

Is this happening to you for both internally and externally received email, or just externally?

Your Exchange FROM: field is actually set on the Exchange server.

Is Apple reading a different field? Or reading from the contacts list?

For me, my exchange inbox shows a list of email that looks like this:

ORTIZD
LOWELLM
manny.ramirez@ladodgers.com
PAPELBONJ

while my coworkers look like

Ortiz, David
Lowell, Mike
Manny Ramirez
Papelbon, Jon

If I drill into the message it displays "Jonathan Papelbon" for the CC'd users, but not for the sender, which shows ORTIZJ.

Hmm, your co-worker uses an iPhone as well? Do you sync your contacts with Exchange as well?

Yes, I have several co-workers with iphones who sync calendar, contacts and mail and do not have this problem. Our settings are the same for mail.

I guess try a restore? There shouldn't be any difference if the settings are all the same.

I have had this problem on both phones I've had. It must be an account thing.
