I live in hawaii and AT&T does not have LTE at the moment.

I have the new ipad for AT&T and was thinking I should exchange it for the Verizon version cause of LTE availability.

Would you do the same thing? I also travel abroad and was wondering if I would have any type of service there with a Verizon device.

Let me know.

When traveling abroad, there is no difference between the VZW and AT&T models. Neither will get LTE outside the US and Canada. Both will get HSPA+. So, VZW will be better for you assuming VZW has LTE in HI. If not, AT&T 3G is faster than VZW 3G.

This is why I hate 3G-LTE. It's not guaranteed that AT&T or Verizon will be great or not in the future, so people will always be exchanging one iPad for the other. Apple needs to make a universal iPad.
