I plan on giving my iPhone 1st gen to my mom on Friday when I get the 3G. She has T-Mobile and is wondering if she can use the Exchange service for her work e-mail if unlocked. AT&T claims it won't work unless you are a business customer though which leads me to believe it may not work for her unless she purchases a more expensive plan from T-Mobile. Does anyone know about this?

I don't think AT&T is claiming it won't work if you're not a business customer -- they're saying that any business that wants to own and pay for iPhones for its employees is going to have to pay more, on the theory that they'll use more data. But the data that any Exchange device sends back and forth doesn't look any different than any other data, so it's not clear how AT&T would block any phone from sending/receiving it.
