I got the IMAP enabled on my firm's Exchange server. I can now receive e-mail if I poll for it (using as a domain mail.(companyname).com). However, our IT consultants who activated it said I will not be able to send mail via this account unless I called AT&T and got the name of the appropriate AT&T smtp server - I can't send mail through mail.(companyname).com.

Does this sound right to anyone?

This is probably more a security restriction than a technical one. They probably don't want to open the SMTP server to the public through the corporate firewall.

Ya, while I'm at a very small business, our tech consultant guy said that we couldn't use the outgoing SMTP w/ our Exchange Server. My solution is using my own mail server I have through web hosting. You also might try just your ISP, I'm not even sure if AT&T provides such a service. They might.

try using "" as your outgoing with no user name or password. That works for me, I got that from at&t's site.

Thanks to all. I will give each of these ideas a shot.
