Can someone explain these two Exchange setting options?

1. 'Settings':'Mail, Contacts, Calendars':'Show' (25, 50...200 recent messages)

2. 'Settings':'Mail, Contacts, Calendars':'[Account Name]':'Mail days to sync'

Not sure how these two settings interact...a bit confusing.

1. How many emails will be displayed by default.

2. How many days History of email will be shown.

ie. you could set 2. to 3 days. and you will only have mail that is less than 3 days old. but if 1. is set to 100, its still just going to display a maximum of 100 emails over those 3 days. (even if there are 200 emails to show.)

or you could set 2. to "no limit", and 1. to 200, and you will see your last 200 emails regardless of age. (but if you only have 182 emails, only those will be shown.)

or you could set 2. to 1 day. and you will have all mail less than a day old. if you have display emails set to 200, and you only have 28 emails that are less than a day old, only 28 will be shown. (mail can't show more messages than it has been set to collect from the server.)

i cant explain it much better. sorry!
