I have noticed that there have been various announcements about forthcoming iphone and exchange compatibility. However, I have been using both together for ages with no problems. Will we be getting 'new' features? What will I be able to do that I cannot do already?

(I use the exchange that comes part of SBS2003)

    Cheers, Phil.

Not sure how youre setup but heres the explination:

As it sits iphone does support exchange but only if certain options are configured on the mail server.

The company I work for does not allow outside connections EXCEPT active sync with domain login and VPN.

My iphone will connect to exchange if im on the company wifi but will not as soon as I leave the building.

This is because the outgoing server does not support SMTP or SSL, only active sync.

I cannot turn on VPN on my iPhone either, because my company only supports CiscoVPN IPSec.

    Long story short:
True Exchange requires an active sync certificate, aka logging into the domain.

The way I have my iPhone setup now is:
Connect to exchange for incoming (doesnt require activesync)
Connect to with SSL for bouncing outgoing exchange emails off of my personal comcast account.

The whole point of this is to prevent a company's domain from being globally blacklisted because of SMTP relay spammers. My company has had numerous issues being blacklisted due to viruses and adware, so we turned off all outside access minus active sync (which is very secure).

Hope that kinda makes sense to you, your email might be setup to allow SMTP and/or SSL, most corporations are not.

Watch the SDK roadmap video and you will see what features you don't have now.
