is it standard procedure to restore your phone as new (wiping all data) when you take it in for an exchange? then restore the exchange unit with your backup?

cracked backIf I had to take my phone in for anything, I would attempt to do a restore as new. Just to make sure no data is on it.
But it begs to question, if you're able to wipe it clean successfully with no problems, what would you be taking it in for? Buttons or screen issues?![]()
cracked back
I know this is a weird question, but I dropped my phone and cracked the back today too, and was wondering if the back they use to replace it is brand new or "refurbished". If the latter, does it at least look new? Or might there be signs of use on it?If its just the back they will replace the back piece for $29 instead of giving you another phone.
Its a 5 minute job.

I know, but I'm asking if it is refurbished. And if so, is there a chance that it will have signs of use from the previous owner? Its the same exact back piece.
A brand new Genuine Apple part. Obviously Apple wont use knockoff chinese parts in their stores![]()
