Just a point and I would love to get some feedback from you guys.

I ordered a full price IPhone 7 to be delivered to me. I plan on taking it into the store a week after launch and having them return it into inventory and have them re sell it to me via apple upgrade program. I did this due to being unable to get the phone I wanted via the apple upgrade program. Does anyone think this will be okay>?

Not a problem. At least it wasn't last year.

My thoughts were that I would wait a week or so for the rush to die down, when you guys did it you just brought the box back right? I mean you actually used the phone?

I've read that in some stores they don't sell you the phone that you returned 'cos their system won't allow them to sell the returned phone. It will be marked off as returned in their inventory and then that's that. I would call the store and confirm.

This, i have heard the same thing as well.

Likewise, could an existing IUP customer order a full retail iPhone then take it to the store to return their existing iPhone and continue the Upgrade Program on the new iPhone?

Maybe it's a workaround if Apple doesn't clean up their act in screwing existing IUP customers with respect to the inventory?

I think doing that you run into the risk of the store not having any inventory of the phone you want.

What risk, I'm exchanging the same phone I have I already have the one I want. They are just putting it back in inventory and re selling it.

I was queueing outside a store in the UK a few hours ago, and was sent home because they had no pluses. Store manager told me the quickest way to get on the upgrade program would be to purchase online, then bring it in for a refund and putting through the upgrade program, so I've ordered one to do exactly that!

Except they don't do that. Apple has a policy of refurbishing returned iPhones even if they're returned still sealed in the box within the 14-day return period. They don't take any chance lest someone swaps it out and re-seals the box.

What they meant is they may not have your specific model in the inventory to exchange.

I've read on one of the threads here that once the phone is checked of as returned in their inventory they're not allowed to resell the phone so you run the risk of returning the phone, not being able to buy it again and the store not having any phones in stock to sell to you. I would call the store and confirm that they'll be able to resell the phone to you.

I, too, was not able to enroll in the IUP when pre-ordering so I just ordered one outright. Then an IUP specialist at the Apple Store in SoHo told me I can bring in my iPhone 7 once I get it (October, ugh) and do a return/repurchase of the same exact phone with enrollment, which is what I plan on doing.

But they do not have to resell to you. It might take 24hrs for it to get back in their system before they can sell again

Apple has a policy of refurbishing all returned iPhones, including those returned within the 14-day period still sealed, for the aforementioned reason. They won't put it back in the system to re-sell. It may sound extreme, but they don't take any chance.

The exception (if permitted depending on the circumstance like under the IUP plan) is if it involves returning and re-purchasing the customer's own iPhone on the spot.
