When you get a replacement iPhone (current iPhone faulty), how do you re-active the new one and transfer your number onto the new SIM etc.?

Is it just a case of syncing with iTunes and it takes care of the "transfer" for you?

Assuming that the phone you're replacing had been activated you take your existing SIM and put it in the new phone, connect up to iTunes and it will ask you to confirm your existing telephone number and details, it will then activate the new phone.

Right, thanks. So when I take it back to the O2 store, they'll swap the SIMs over for me?

they also need to tell o2 of the new IMEI number, so you can then activate the new phone - I swapped my iphone today in CPW - they did it via their point-of-sale screen - then when I got home I liked to my mac - and then went through activation, asked me to confirm my phone number - and then resynced - automatically restored from backup, few conflicts resolved - then all back to normal

When I replaced my iPhone at the Genius Bar, the Genius took care of everything except I had to re-synch my personal data back onto the iPhone when I got home. He took care of the phone number and all of that. Very painless process really.
