Exchanging MBA and rMBP keycaps

I have a 2011 11" MacBook Air with the International English keyboard layout:

And I'm going to be getting a Retina MacBook Pro with the German keyboard layout:

My question is; can I swap the keycaps from one with the other? I know how to change the keyboard layout in System Preferences, but having the keycaps match the characters that appear on screen will be very helpful 🙂

Yes. The keys use the same "scissor" mechanism and are the same size. There are lots of Youtube videos that show you how to take the keys off... it's just a 1-1 swap.

My 11" MacBook Air keys were definitely not the same size as my Retina MacBook Pro keys.

I would suggest either ordering a computer with the correct key layout or buy a keyboard skin.

Dang, miles01110 got my hopes up 🙂

I may yet get the English layout on the rMBP, but the person who'll inherit the MBA wants a German layout, is why I asked.
